Kalusha Bwalya

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya has been honoured with a Medal of Honour award by the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA).

Kalusha was among 13 other personalities who were conferred for their various contributions to the development of sports in Africa and beyond.

Meanwhile, Congo Brazzaville will host the 2015 11th All Africa Games, having hosted the first edition in 1965.

This is contained in a communiqué released to the Times yesterday by SCSA general secretary, Sonstone Kashiba following an Extra-Ordinary African Sports Ministers’ meeting held on November 9, 2012 in Brazzaville Congo.

Others awarded with the SCSA Medal of Honour were Minister of Sports and Physical Education for Congo Brazzaville, Dr. Léon-Alfred Opimbat, who is also SCSA president in office, Romodan Osman Mohammed, Minister/Commissioner of Sports of Eritrea, Adoum Garoua, Minister of Sport and Physical Education of Cameroun and Dr. Chief Patrick Ekeji, Director General of National Sport Commission of Nigeria.

Ahmed Mohamed Fouly Sayed, president of AASC and president of African Confederation of Taekwondo in Egypt, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, president of African Athletics Confederation and president of International Military Sport Council in Cameroon.

Dr Hassan Moustafa, President of the International Handball Federation of Egypt, Selmi Sid Ahmed, president of SCSA Administration and Finance Commission of Algeria, Cherif Hajem, vice-president of the World Table Tennis Federation of Tunisia, Tchoya Michel, and SCSA Director of Cabinet and AASC Secretary General of Cameroon.

The rest are Namibia’s Carol Garoes, president of the Confederation of African Netball Association (CANA) and Association of Women in Sport in Africa (AWISA) Secretary General, Prof. Constant Roux, president of Africa Sport Medicine Union from Cote d’Ivoire and Tesfayi Gebreyesus from Eritrea. The SCSA Merit Award went to the Republic of Mali.

Kashiba said the meeting noted that the future of African Sport depended on governments working harmoniously with their partners and that sport was a tool to consolidate friendship among member states.

The member countries also discussed at length the future of SCSA regarding its mandate and role in coordinating the African Sport Movement and resolved to make further consultations after which submissions will be done on the margins of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Sport to be held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 2013.

Kashiba also said the Ministers acknowledged the contributions of the Republic of Congo Brazzaville as a strong supporter of the pan-African Sport Movement as evidenced by its commitment to host the 11th All Africa Games in 2015.

“In that regard it was noted that the preparations of the 2015 Games should proceed smoothly with the SCSA playing its coordinating role,” said the Zambian who is based in Yaoundé, Cameroun.

He said the meeting passed a motion of thanks to Congo for providing excellent facilities as well as sacrifices and commitment to the values and ideals of African Sport and requested the Minister of Sport

and Physical Education of Congo Brazzaville Opimbat, to convey their gratitude to Brazzaville’s Republican President, Denis Sassou N’Guesso as well as the Government and the people of Congo

Do Nations acknowledge the heroes they have? Not until they pass away. Do nations acknowledge the great within them? Not until they are oppressed.
