ON MMD MPs UNNECESSARY BY-ELECTIONS CAUSED BY PRESIDENT SATA

BY REV. JEVAN KAMANGA PROVINCIAL COORDINATOR – COPPERBELT
PLEASE DO NOT KILL THE OPPOSITION
As NAREP on the Copperbelt, we are taken aback by the many inconstancies being portrayed by both the PF government and the MMD. This gives every reason why people should now start thinking of NAREP as the alternative government to break these behaviors by the so called big parties.
In 1990, we made a Decisive Decision that this Country would never again be ruled under a One Party state. We introduced plural politics which are very vital to Democracy. The current problems we are facing between PF and the Opposition is a road leading to weakening the Opposition and having a One Party State.
The appointment of Ministers from among the opposition has for the long time been done in bad faith. The aim has been to weaken the opposition in a bid to have influence in the national assembly. Constitutionally, all MPs are properties of their respective parties.
We have a very big problem especially when the President calls opposition MPs serving in his government as Deputy Ministers and after that meeting, these MPs start hinting on bye elections. Mr. President, do not kill democracy. In a multi-party dispensation, opposition plays a major role for checks and balances. We don’t think any of our Opposition leaders are any close to what HE Michael C. Sata used to do when he was in opposition. He threw tantrums and fits. We thought he will be different after being in opposition for 10 years.
The best the ruling party can do in the interest of democracy and co-existence, in the absence of a collision government clause or a government of national unity clause, is to write formally the request or interest in the named MP or MPs or offer the opposition parties some positions in government so that the respective parties can choose among their MPs suitable MPs of their choice to be part of the Cabinet.
To stop this trend of unnecessary and expensive Bye-Elections, we propose that every MP who causes a Bye-Election be barred from contesting in the Bye-Election.
We want to strongly appeal to HE President Sata to help maintain the opposition as it is vital for a Multi Party Dispensation. If Mr Sata continues with his plan of weakening the opposition, he will go down the history lane as an enemy to democracy. This country is already strained on the economy and By-elections is a shear waste of the much needed resources.

Tellin Sata not KILL oppposition is like tellin him to give away his party to the opposition or tellin a football to relinquish its points to a losin team.By the way he is NOT using a GUN to hunt down the oppositon but captalising on greed & selfish oppositionists like Nevers Nkhumba & HH who seem not to be coordinated with their members. So yo point is out of context hence jst edge the opposition to be strong jst like PF was durin opposition era who faced the same death trap but survived in boat of Noah.

Zambians should just make it a point that any member of Parliament that causes a by election should not be voted for again, ever. These people are taking us for granted. Can you imagine, how much does it cost to hold a by election??

Hei! wake up NAREP. Do you think us PF will sit with our fingures in the ***** and watch as Nevers and HH wage a campaign to shoot down all our motions? Wake up! Politics is about numbers and if we do not nuetralize the threat we risk an impeachment. For now NAREP just watch and see. We know and agree with your observation but hei, now its WARRRRR!!!!

For sure he is costing the nation with bye elections as a result of wanting to kill the opposition. He is the one who was insisting on cutting costs but he is now doing the opposite. Building his retirement house whilst in office, changing and rechanging ministries, unnecessary provinces and districts. SATA ZWA

We should call a spade a spade. Whatever, whoever is involved for these by elections has no heart for his/her mother country Zambia let alone citizens? We are talking of billions of Kwacha every now and then in the so called by-elections. We are just a year and a few months after the general elections, l wonder what the situation will be like in the next two also years. My advice to those vying for MP-ship, should seriously consider before they commit themselves. We can’t afford these expenses and I even wonder whether they are budgeted for.

Jevan Kamanga should direct his letter to MMD members of parliament and appeal to them to be principled and not defect. If a woman is promiscuous you can’t blame a man for seducing her.

Am just from reading somewhere, where someone defined politics as:
“politicts as a term driven from two greek word, poly-meaning many and tick – to mean a blood sucker paracide”. He went on to define a politician as “an individual who has perfected the art of laying”. imagine that.
Ba REV, a good politician is one who has the ability to cling to power and do whatever it takes to hold on to that power. IN POLITICS ANYTHING GOES AS LONG AS IT WILL HELP YOU HOLD ON TO POWER AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. I guess as a Rev, its time you thought twice whether you are in the right game. cheers and good luck.

when the PF came in power I thought of the highest concentration to poverty reduction, instead all i can see and hear is by-elections and meeting of chiefs so that even chiefdoms can belong to PF. now what is democracy?
I never expected this from PF coz upto now we can’t see more money in our pockets instead its more money to by-elections.
please we need Zambia to develop regardless of H.H and Nevers

When the opposition is all out to destroy PF by slander and all sorts of malicious propaganda do you expect PF to do nothing in the name of democracy? They will strategise to avoid sinking and because they have an advantage of being the ruling party their strategies will be seen as killing the opposition. The opposition is allowed to insult and peddle lies all in the name of democracy. Should the rulling party fold its arms and go down in the name of democracy? No my friend the word democracy signifies free choice. And democracy is costly. I’ll leave you with some food for thought: How much did the Mufumbwe bye-election cost? A couple of billions? I bet a considerable part of that money is in people’s pockets, those who were temporarily employed to conduct the elections.

One thing no one can deny, people are getting away with talking nonsense under PF than they would have got away with under any other regime since Welensky

An MP has the right to change political parties at any time, like any other citizen. Anyone can suggest to an MP to switch camps, and that MP has the free will to take it or leave it. The electorate can also decide to vote or not to vote for a defector. There is nothing illegal in any of this. It is costly, yes, but it is within the people’s rights, and it is within the confines of democracy, choice and free will. We just have to accept it though we may not like it.

It’s unfortunate that most of our so called MPs are not in parliament on moral objectives or to serve the people but their pockets. I can imagine how much money goes into By-elections when some of our mothers are delivering in improvised maternity wings lighted by a single candle in some of the Rural Health Centres.
No wonder i salute the clause in the constitution about the issue of running mate. It should be extended to MP and Councillors . If an MP resigns the second candidate in line should automatically take the place. And the resigning MP should only be eligible to stand for that position at the end of the term of office.

It is unfair to accuse Michael Sata or indeed any other Zambian President of causing the by-elections. By-elections are caused by the respective office holders. Causes of by-elections are varied. These include death, resignation or change of political alliances on the part of the office holders. Shifting alliances is also a democratic right of the office holder. Remember Milupi?
The cost of holding by-elections have got a constitutional basis. However, in certain countries such as South Africa, it is the party that remains in office for the duration of the mandate. i.e. until the next general and parliamentary elections. This issue needed to be debated during the Constitution Review exercise.
In every election, there will be a winner but losers do not exist. Democracy a win-win situation. What has gone wrong? Democracy is double-edged sword. It will hurt you if choose to over-simplify the processes involved.

i conquer with your concern as NAREP,and we understand that having by-elections each and every time is costly. But one thing you must not forget is that some opposition like MMD and UPND have lost their direction and have no hope in anyway of Heading this country. So its much more easier and convenient for PF to use the available resource in these oppositions so that its not being wasted.thank you.

We all Zambians we have to be careful with Dr. Nevers Mumba. Right now he is in England to solicit for support from the West. And when the man wins to become the president he surely would have auctioned off Zambia to foreign powers. This means his leadership and the well being of Zambia as a nation will be in futility as far as Zambia is concerned since we voluntarily offered ourselves to be slaves to the Western Countries.
Remember, history is fond of repeating itself the two world wars were not only fought in Europe but other lands were used. Even now these wars can be fought using the foreign land like Zambia. Mind the Western & Eastern blocks are at loggerheads, wanting to fight but each & every one of them have developed their cities so well that they are afraid of destroying them. The best is look for neutral ground where they can fight from. Dr. Nevers Mumba Zambians we have to be careful with him. In short never to let him be the president. Dr. Nevers Mumba has just proved to a very desperate who does not care about anything. The best is His Excellence Micheal Chilufya Sata because his becoming the president came from Zambians. And really we are independent because he never got any support & sympathy from the foreign powers . Long live Mr.Sata together with PF.
