Zambia Army Soldiers in Kaoma Are Dating Pupils
SOME female pupils at Kaoma High School in Western Province are flirting with soldiers from Luena Barracks, school authorities have confirmed.
The school adds that the pupils have also illegally left their dormitories and are now living in rented houses away from the control of school authorities.
Most of the houses are reported to be located not far from pubs in the business centre of the district, authorities say.
They also accuse soldiers of sexually abusing the girls after giving them alcoholic drinks.
School authorities are worried that the pupils may end up with unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted illnesses.
Kaoma High School deputy head teacher Mwana Nongolo said in a telephone interview yesterday that a brawl erupted recently during which a school prefect was assaulted by soldiers who were found buying beer for schoolgirls at a bar.
The soldiers were upset that school authorities went to ‘rescue’ the girls from them.
Mr Nongolo said teachers and school prefects had followed the girls after being instructed by head teacher Jonathan Mukenge the, who had received numerous complaints from concerned parents.
He said the soldiers defied pleas from school authorities to let the pupils and attacked the teachers and prefects.
Some of the girls are in examination classes.
“No administration derives pleasure in seeing schoolgirls or pupils becoming incorrigible. Management will have no choice but to recommend the suspension of the girls pending expulsion, to deter would-be offenders because discipline is key to performance,” Mr Nongolo said.
He appealed to parents and other concerned people in the district to help the school management and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) to curb the pupils’ recklessness.
Mr Nongolo said the school management and the PTA have managed to create about 106 bed spaces to accommodate the girls at the institution.
Kaoma District Head Teachers’ Association chairperson Matakala Tomola has described the situation as unfortunate because Government officers are abusing girls from the only boarding school in the district.
Mr Tomola said the assaulting of a school prefect in the company of school authorities is a sad development and an insult to the teaching fraternity in the district.
Mr Tomola said there is need for concerted efforts from parents and school counsellors to sensitise the girls at the school on the importance of education.
Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba when contacted said: “I will take the matter up with the Army Commander [Paul Mihova] immediately so that we can get to the bottom of this.”

I know these tuma teacher and prefects could not withstand these tuma recruite soldiers after all there just in the same agegroup around 18years to around 23years not long ago they were together at school ,do not amplify issues we know that teachers shug the same gilrs so leave them they might marry them or sponsor them to colage never mind thats just small small sex there is big sex with married techers and other civil servants which should be your concern

I support calls for soilders especilly those without any trade of any kind to start helping the local goverment by sweeping the roads as well as gabbage collection on door to door starting with Chibolya compound. Recently I was laughing at my uncle who retired in the army and was busy cheasing up his benefits. I asked him if he has ever fought in wars or killed someone all he told me was how he used to enjoy tined beef during kaunda erra then i said to myself, what a solider indeed. Let these guys go and see how their colleagues are running up and down in war tone areas then they will have less time of playin around with these school girls.
