Zambian captain Christopher Katongo has missed out on the African Footballer of the year award while Rainford Kalaba and Stophira Sunzu have made the final shortlist.
Christopher Katongo who was yesterday shortlisted for the BBC African footballer of the year award misses out as the coaches and technical staff who were given to vote for the final 5 players opted for Demba Ba from Senegal, Andre Ayew of Ghana, Cameroun’s Alex Song and the Ivorian duo of Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure in a brief ceremony in Accra.
But the Zambia duo 0f Stophira Sunzu and Rainford Kalaba have made the final shortlist for African Player of the Year – Based in Africa.
The two 2012 AFCON gold-medalists are joined by 33 year old veteran Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutreika of Al-Ahly.
The TP Mazembe players have been in fine form for both club and country with both having played a pivotal role in Zambia’s maiden AFCON win and their qualification for the 2012 South Africa African Cup of Nations tournament as well as helping Zambia keep a good grip on the race for Brazil 2014.

Chazya, Nasty N and Haunter, get facts right.
The two awards are different.
CAF winner is decided by CAF coaches and technical staff while the BBC one is decided by the fans by way of voting.
Katongo is missing out on CAF but is still a nominie of BBC.

Chris is on the list of BBC African Footballer of the year 2012. Then on Caf African Footballer of the year list, that is where he was excluded and they put Some Idiots on the list who always fail when they come to African Competitions.
