MMD chairperson for elections Gabriel Namulambe has advised the PF to consider quality and not quantity as they look for MMD members of parliament to work with in government.
In an interview, Namulambe said the PF should not just look at having numbers on their side but quality as well.
“It is not about quantity but quality. The other thing is that when you want to have some people to work with you, you must be able to derive something from them in terms of knowledge, respect and value addition to the political party in general. They should be able to get people that would add value to the party than those even if they got them…because you see it is not right that PF must spend money even for instance to win an election.A person must be able to help reduce even the amount of money that is spent in terms of campaigns because of the quality in that person,” he said after being asked for his word of caution to the PF on the impending resignation of four MMD members of parliament.
On the lessons that his party had learnt from the four MPs who intend to resign to join PF, Namulambe said the MMD would in future look at the maturity of the candidates and whether they were entering politics to serve the people or their own pockets.
Namulambe said those who joined politics for the purpose of serving themselves had very low levels of maturity.
“In future we should carefully look at people that we adopt and that they really have a heart for the people and not going into politics for prestige or their own pockets. Many Zambians look up to us leaders in order for them to move forward but if the leaders are unstable in terms of thinking and their actions, I don’t think we are going to inspire people to join politics. We ought to be a model where people should be able to see sense in what we are doing, then we are going to attract quality leaders,” he said.
Namulambe urged leaders in all political parties to be wary of people that were in politics to serve their own pockets as opposed to serving the poor Zambians.
“Let us help the leadership. For instance, we have heard the President is committed to serve the poor people and let those people who are trying to help him serve the people,” he said.
Namulambe said there was nothing wrong in serving the people of Zambia in the opposition, adding that the PF had shown a lot of commitment of taking development to all constituencies, even those under the opposition.
“Their aim is to look at the poor Zambian, so to claim that unless you are with the ruling party that is when the government can accelerate development is a falsehood because I have never heard even the President talk about taking development only to areas where there are PF members of parliament. They only talk about serving the poor Zambians and these belong to both groups, the opposition and those in the ruling party,” he said.
Namulambe said the country should spare its meagre resources by avoiding unnecessary by-elections.
He said there was nothing that warrants the current MMD members of parliament serving in government to resign and join the PF.
“People like Mr. Richard Taima, if he wanted to join PF, he should have joined at the time when he lost the petition in the High Court. He should have allowed the by-election to go ahead and he should have stood on PF ticket if he so wished,” said Namulambe.

There is no need to poach any MP; Zambia we have been cited as having one of the best democracy arrangements in Africa . However if we are taking the country backward to one party state by poaching opposition MPs -what are we implying to the world? its better to have opposition in parliament rather than have only those who say yes bwana yes bwana

Poaching of MPs is instigated by oposition’s lack of objectivIty in the way they block even developmental and progressive plans by Government in parliament. Eg retirement House for Sata when they approved RBs.
Poaching can be stopped by the opposition if they stop practising politics of hatred and pulling the ruling party down (PHD).
