Zambian Soccer Fans Ask CAF to Reinstate Katongo on Short List

Zambian soccer fans have presented a petition to Football House requesting the national soccer governing body to request CAF to consider including African champion skipper Chris Katongo on the final short list for the 2012 African player awards.

Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association chairman Yotam Mwanza and soccer analyst Musonda Chibulu presented the petition to Football Association of Zambia general secretary George Kasengele.

After being named among the 10 candidates for the continental best player award for 2012, Katongo failed to make the final five after voting by national coaches, technical directors and captains.

In receiving the petition, Kasengele said he would immediately dispatch it to Cairo for the attention of the CAF Secretary General.

Zambian fans want Katongo put back in the race for the prestigious African Player of the Award whose final short list has Ivorians Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure, Demba Ba, Alexander Song and Andre Ayew.

It is unlikely CAF will grant the request as the vote is done by national team coaches or technical directors and captains.

Why do you want him back & who do you want them to remove on the list to reinstate him? Lets learn to be logic coz you cannot force selection. There will be alwayz one winner & if the so called fans see Katongo to be the best let them know its not everyone who see him like that.I hope Kasengele jst said it for formality tht he will dispatch the petition to Cairo. To me Zambia can is one of the best team in Africa but Katongo is jst better.Even Kalaba is better than C.katongo.Next tyme we ‘ll hear you have petitioned Big Brother Africa final contestants list.

Zambians and their dullness! Always trying to pick spilt milk. You were swindled by the west africans and it ends there. Just go back to your pathetic loser lives. Katongo himself accepted the injustice and you a potbelly soccer fan wants justice. Katongo knows that his club performance messed things up. Failing to shine in China? Sunzu even deserved to be on that list whose performance for country and club has been more convincing. Even Mayuka outperformed Katongo

CAF tha issue of removing katongo on the short listed players does not show fair play. The names of some players included did not even shine at tha last AfCON.

There is something unusual about Chris Katongo
each time he scores, then no other Zambian on the team scores.
It must be charms. Let someone else like Mweene or Kalaba get the award.

It is not realistic for fans to think that because Katongo won the Africa Cup then he should always be on the list. CAF did not do the voting but just recieved the votes and it is the same criteria that CAF used when Kalusha won it in 1988 and nobody complained despite Kalusha not winning any Africa Cup or silver ware to himself. FAZ should not even forward that petition to CAF because to me it doesnt make any sense.

From ten to five. Out of the remaining five, four will be eliminated. That’s how it goes. If all complain, how many comlaints will we have. Besides, if selection was based on winning the AFCON, then it would be automatic. Katongo himself is understands.

Guys let us just forget about C.Katongo and his ellimination from the CAF list. Let us just work on getting back the trophy if we didnt get it by luck. Am sure if we get it again then probably Katongo will be among the top 5.
