Bogus CAF Awards: Kalu Describes Reversal Of Sunzu’s Award As Crazy
Former African footballer of the year Kalusha Bwalya described what happened at the Glo / CAF awards gala in Ghana as crazy after he saw Chipolopolo strong man Stophira Sunzu presented with the award but later stripped of it because there was a mistake.
Sunzu, who was basking in the limelight after being crowned as the best player based in Africa for the year 2012 got a shock when the nominees were called back towards the end of the ceremony and the show hosts apologized for the mistake and they stripped him of his title and relegated the towering AFCON gold medalist to 3rd position in his category.
“They announced Sunzu had won but when the show was almost through, [the] MCs apologised for mistake!! Its crazy. Seems like a conspiracy”, Kalusha stated in a tweet. The FAZ president and former chipolopolo captain was attending the ceremony and received the national team award on behalf of the Chipolopolo.
Sunzu who has shown outstanding performance for both club and country has in the year under review been instrumental for the Chipolopolo in winning the Africa cup of nations tournament in which he completed all the games.

He also played a key role in qualifying the team to the 2013 AFCON tournament as well ensuring that Chipolopolo stay on top of the 2014 world cup qualifying group after he bagged man of the match awards and an accolade in 3 of the 4 competitive games he has played for Zambia in the post AFCON success.
He again made defending look easy when Chipolopolo bagged the Mandela challenge cup in November in a game he collected the man of the match award.
Egyptian Mohamed Aboutrika who has now won the award twice was rewarded for his key role for his club in continental football despite there being no league matches in Egypt as the Egyptian national team again faltered in qualification.

CAF is a circus, how do they explain this stupidity?? How do u explain awarding a player grommets s country whose league was suspended in February and the only action he has had is Africabchampions league???
But to even award Sunzu only to strip him of it is not only ****** but criminal!!
FAZ has to lodge a official complaint on embarrassment caused to Sunzu also demand clarification on how mistake was made!
When is Issa Hayatou stepping aside or does he intend to die in that position?? May he die soon then!!!

Shame on CAF for causing such an embarrassment to Sunzu for their incompetency and corrupt deeds. It seems CAF live on corruption, nominates corruption, and gives out corruption. CAF in fact should apologize to FAZ and Sunzu for their hopelessness behavior and for subjecting Sunzu to such a situation.

These west African chaps especially the French speaking chaps are used to rigging. See how they almost destroyed Ivory Coast until the white boys went to solve their silly problems. Did you listen to the BBC interview on that Dictator who has been President now for 33 years and the fellows in Guinea keep him in office. Its good he has been exposed.

If Kalusha does not take the matter up before the CAF executive then it means he is in on the corruption. The whole CAF executive should be dissolved and the award given to the right person. The Egyptian league has not been active for 8 months making it impossible for any player from that league to compete with for any award. Any ***** in africa knows that and CAF seems to be beneath the idiots. These fools must go otherwise African Football will never improve.

u are right @lord atkin its caf champions league award. Aboutrika for Al ahly of egypt won it. Sunzu for tp mazambians of congo lost.so goes the awards.

@lord atkins and barotse diaspora.The award is based on performance in all competitions not the champions league hence kalu’s argument that sunzu has shown more consistency because he has played more games and won man of the match in these games for both club and country unlike aboutrika who failed to inspire his team to qualification for CAN2013 and the absence of a league in Egypt means the champions league was his only test,the sample is small hence Sunzu deserves the award!

Iwe kalusha, do not just tweet, do something tangible about this. You supported Hayatou & Co. when they just introduced dubious conditions for standing for CAF presidency thinking that you could benefit from it. waona manje? CAF is for francophones. Zambians, let us start infiltrating these international organisations so that we can have an influence out there and not to be cheated everyday. Ministry of Sport civil servants should get into such organisations on secondment (other countries do it). even the few Zambians who are out there in international organisations are being pushed back home by fellow Zambians including Embassies!!!!! shame on us.

Caf’s award decision is based on merit and table work.my analysis conquers with champions league award.4 example katongo was crown following afcon 2012.aboutrika is crown after caf champs.league.guess again even thousand times.

They mean to say,papers can be filled in and signed for without being edited and carefully scrutinised before such a big event? C’mon CAF,give us a better challenge. Ba Tumfweko you are liars, you even know the truth but you are trying to sentionalise. If you enlarge that certificate it clearly states 2nd Runners up. The mistake was with the announcer unless you are saying they had to reprint whilst the show was live. Try being proffessional for once.

Issa Hayatou is just too corrupt. Remember he was bribed during the WOrld Cup bid? Even now he realised too late afTer the Arabs who had bribed him threatened to spill the beans. Even Yaya toure shudnt have won that title. Chris Katongo won gold in Africa. Toure won the league in Europe so who qualifies for AFRICAN footballer of the year?
