Politics Of The Belly

ALLOW me space in your column to air out my views on political defections.Today in Zambia, it has become a norm for politicians to jump from the opposition party to the ruling party for various reasons.

This tendency does not only border on morality but also gobbles huge national resources that could have been channelled to develop this great nation.

Our brother George Mpombo though he is also a culprit would say ‘Politics of the belly’. This trend if not checked will deplete our national coffers through unnecessary by-elections.

MMD had identified traitors that had been trekking to Plot One looking for jobs.

Many people have demonised the MMD for putting its foot down against traitors.

It is better for MMD to remain 15 and push in one direction than being 55 and push in different directions.

MMD may head into oblivion but it is unacceptable for its Members of Parliament to ditch the party and join the ruling party on personal gains.

Many defectors called PF and its leader Michael Sata all sorts of names and incited electorates in the villages not to vote for Sata. Politics is a game of numbers; everyone is embraced regardless of morals.

Some people have in the past uttered different contradicting statement contrary to what they are doing today.

I wish we could keep all statements once made over a period of time and use them to gauge his or her morality. Anybody who fails this test should not vye for any public office.

Zambia should come up with laws that would bar a person who caused a by-election unnecessarily from contesting.

This way, we would help reduce the number of by-elections held per year. Another law should bar the incumbent President from poaching members of Parliament from the opposition kraal.

Henry Fayol came up with 14 principles. One of the principles is called Unity of command, meaning a subordinate should only have one superior.

A poached MP will have two superiors and would be more loyal to only one of them.

Electorate have a role to play in discouraging political prostitution.

They can use their voting right to reject political prostitutes.

We are tired of by-elections.

@ Sunday looking at your comment I just what what you do fo a living.I wonder what your highest level of education is for you to think like this. The easiest way to make money my dear young man is to go into legitimate business and enjoy your profits.Politics is not about making money but to serve for the purpose of developing zambia and improving the living standards of our people. You and your MMD defectors are not worthy to be in politics because I think you are still too poverty stricken to serve others selflessly. Its true ubuchushi bubi.

This Country has no politicians who can sacrifice for people,If Pf can lose power today a good number of them can shift to the ruling part,What those defectors were speaking about Mr Sata when they were in power is totally against their actions today,If colonialists can return back to Zambia today we can easily be sold out by these foolish ,unprincipled and angry politicians.CAREFUL

Do not confuse the two ” malty partism n Democracy” so then what’s wrong with having a one party state. Can any one compare Zambia 22 yrs ago when we had a one party state and today when we can have have malty partism that has brought division.
Tongas want their president, Bembas n so the other tribes. Infact if Malty partism has Failed we will go for One or two party state.

Great piece of writing. Kumesa Kauta you are the kind of Zambian we all need to be in order for us to transform this country. So much service delivery time is lost preparing for unproductive by-elections. A moral culture needs to be created in which people belong to a particular political party only on account of their belief in that party’s values and principles of governance, as opposed to the prevailing one where political power and access to state resources is the major driving force. If a seating MP defects to another party and causes a by-election then such a politician is not legible to stand in the said by-election. Actually, we probably need an amendment in the constitution, which should allow the political party that loses a seating MP to replace him with another of their own!! Too much of the year is lost to by-election violence, campaigns and the actual election…

They are political turn coats. Demargogues. As long as a law is not implemented and legislated to bar these chameleons, they will continue this political prostitution. Lord save our few resources for meaningful progress. Amen.

I AM ADVISING ZAMBIANS ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH..TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE OUR POLITICAL SCENE.THE POLITICS IN ZAMBIA HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED.MANY OF THE SO CALLED POLITICIANS ARE NOT HERE TO SERVE .THEY ARE SIMPLY USING THEIR MOUTHS TO CHEAT AND EXPLOIT THE MASSES…POLITICALLY…THEIR DESIRE IS NOT TO SERVE..I CAN ASSURE YOU THEIR ONLY DESIRE IS TO LINE THEIR POCKETS..DRIVE NICE CARS,STAY IN BIG MANSIONS,FLY EVERYDAY,CREATE BUSINESS EMPIRES,SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOLS ABROAD ETC….WE NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE SITUATION..BUT THE BIG QUESTION TO THE YOUTHS OUT THERE IS WHO WILL LEAD THIS REVOLUTION?WE SHOULD FORCE THESE OLD BALLIES FROM LEADERSHIP.THEY ALL HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR USEFULNESS..
