Stophilla Sunzu: Which Way?

Sunzu

Sunzu

For the past two weeks the country has been treated to a Stophilla Sunzu Arsenal/Reading merry-go –round plot.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a player being linked with team A or B but the Sunzu story is turning out to be a distraction for a team that is preparing to defend its crown at the forthcoming Africa Cup.

Rather than focus on the build-up of the tournament with the Chipolopolo setting up base in South Africa, it is the gossip tinged tale that has consumed even the Football Association of Zambia.

Too many half truths, mumblings and outright lies have been shoved down the public’s throat and now everyone is only willing about focusing their energies on the Sunzu deal or lack of it. Why the commotion around the player?

Why the stampede? Who are his handlers? Or rather where are his handlers? Please help the young man. He has given too many interviews blabbering about this or that club wanting him, not a bad idea if you ask me as a journalist for which scribe hates a story from the proverbial horse’s mouth?

But where is the manager or who is the manager? We have heard it all and are getting bored-Hoffeinheim, Hertha Berlin, Reading and Arsenal guess from who? Sunzu himself!

Today it is the Arsene Wenger to trial guarantee over the phone assurance and tomorrow the reneging on the Arsenal connection and the certainty of the Reading deal. Surely the public would be happier with how far Rainford Kalaba is from full recovery? Which youngster will make the final 23 squad? How far Zambia reckons it will go at the Africa Cup?

Yes that should be what our discourse should be hinged on. The ease with which the likelihood of Sunzu missing the Africa Cup should he sign for Reading is being dismissed is worrying if not laughable.

For all I know football forklore is laden with many tales of players who turned their back on their country to concentrate on building a club career! I hear someone say it is a FIFA sanctioned tournament. Yes it is but how many times has Nigeria battled routinely with these situations? Shola Ameobi the Newcastle star is not on the plane today heading to South Africa despite intimating at availability because at the hour Nigerians were screaming for him he was ‘busy’ with club duties. Did not coach Herve Renard allow journeyed Jonas Sakuwaha to try out a hand at Lorient in 2010 at the time Zambia was headed to Angola for the Africa Cup?

Trust these FIFA theories at your own peril! For the record Mr Sunzu has to decide what he wants to do. If he wants to go why stop him? After all Renard has insisted that he wants to work with players who are 100 percent committed. For the record Sunzu has been 110 percent committed to the Chipolopolo thus far. No need to vilify him. But then you are either on the left or right. No middle ground-period!

Should the Africa Cup not go as planned and Reading turn the other way who is the player going to cry to. But of course Sunzu has to know what is good for him otherwise us at bolazambia.comsay someone halt this senseless plot for Christ’s sake.

The country has more important things to worry about with defending the AfCON a set target. Sunzu has a career to preserve both for club and country, so he must be allowed to curve his own path. If he has to go to England now and join Chipolopolo later atleast before January 10, so be it!

I hasten to lay blame at Kulasha squarely. He, as in many other player transfer shambles is playing his invisible selfish hand in this. Whereas AFCON matters more for the country, it is the Nichkeleko stake that matters more for the FAZ boss and his cronies in this matter. Such is his greed that many of our promising players have lost out of career opportunities of a lifetime. Can Mr Kambwili demand a public disclosure of Sunzu’s handlers and a public report on the truth on player’s status?

Why should news of a transfer be distracting? Unless the team is so frail it would be distracted by a fly passing near the training ground

It’s rumoured that Kalu has a big role in this business of players and his hands are greased during the process. In the end a player ends up at a less serious club like portsmouth.ndeloleshafye!!!

Even Andebayo was called by Wenger on phone. It was during the same period when Andebayo got engaged to arsenal team. So no fuss over it. The sky is the limit to Stoppy.
