Mwamba: Esther Phiri Settling Down With Her New Man Willie Nsanda
ANTHONY Mwamba will not drag Esther Phiri back into the ring as she has decided to rest for a while and settle down with her new-found love.
Prominent Patriotic Front member and Road Development Agency chairman Willie Nsanda is the man in Esther’s life.
And Mwamba charged that Zambia Professional Boxing Control Board (ZPBCB) secretary general Ben Saili knows nothing about boxing to suggest stripping Esther of her 10 international titles.
Reacting to calls from boxing fans for Esther to return to the ring, Mwamba, Esther’s trainer, said the Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) World title holder has rights which he respected.
Mwamba said he only controlled five per cent of Esther following the arrival of Nsanda into the boxer’s life.
“Esther has a man now in her life,” Mwamba said in an interview. “It was easy when she was single, but now when she has a man, I can only control five per cent of her life, 95 per cent is up to her. I cannot drag her into the ring. I have to respect her rights and her choice. She decided to rest and enjoy her money. I have to respect that.”
Esther on Monday said she had taken time off boxing “to enjoy her money quietly” with her family.”
Mwamba said Esther’s current sabbatical break was in order.
“When she was fighting frequently, the same people were saying she needs to rest,” he said. “Even the Ministry of Sports said I should allow her to rest. Now I have given her chance, you start saying she is inactive and she will be stripped of her belt.”
Mwamba launched scathing attacks on Saili, accusing him of lacking sufficient knowledge about boxing to suggest that Esther be stripped of her belts as she was inactive.
Mwamba also disclosed that Esther would relinquish the WIBA belts because she had graduated to a heavier weight category.
Saili on Wednesday expressed concern that after she successfully defended the WIBA title from Zimbabwe’s Monalisa Sibanda in February this year Esther had not returned to the ring.
“She will not even be defending those titles, she will just relinquish them because she has moved to a different category,” Saili told ZNBC.
Mwamba expressed displeasure at the ZPBCB for influencing the stripping of Esther’s titles instead of protecting her as a local champion.
“I am very surprised and disappointed to hear Saili say that,” Mwamba said. “I am the one who organised that title fight and I have been in touch with the WIBA president Ryan Wissow. He has not told me anything like that. In fact, Saili doesn’t know anything about boxing.”
Esther holds the World Super Lightweight titles in the Women International Boxing Federation (WIBF), Global Boxing Union (GBU) Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) and Global Boxing Council (GBC).
She recently said she did not want to rush into defending her titles because she was enjoying her hard-earned money with her family.
On April 17, 2011, Nsanda joined Mwamba’s Exodus Stable as a financial manager for former African Boxing Union (ABU) bantamweight champion Kennedy Kanyanta, who has since retired from professional boxing on medical grounds.
The former Chimwemwe member of parliament, who formerly sponsored Kitwe Playing Filed motor club, said sport, especially boxing, was close to his heart.
Nsanda joined Exodus Stables to help contribute to its boxing development and Esther’s growing glory then.

Mwamba, you are very right and we can not force Esther to continue boxing but we can only express our opinion on her career.

It would be good if she could even just stop boxing,us zambians we dnt appreciate fr a lng tym n we forget fast wht sm1 dd incase of a negative result,if i ws th man to her she could nvr step in th ring agn.

My daddy Willie Nsanda grabbed my cploured girl friend and sent me abroad so that he can be enjoying her and later made her in to his wife. He later dumped her and now she woks as a bar lady in Muf tavern.
