The Disordered Opposition Is Worrying

Dear Editor,

Just A simple example of what a disorganized and weak opposition can cost a country is the corruption and plunder of more than 40million US dollars by FTJ and former ministers/government officials of the 90s.

Frankly, if not for strong PF opposition and critics like (now silenced) Frank Bwalya Even the development MMD of RB boasts of would be a fairy tale.

We must note that an effective and objective Opposition is a very vital aspect to a healthy democracy, owing to this fact a democratic country must protect the freedom of assembly and speech as this is the life and blood of democracy thereby up holding a vibrant opposition But as things stand today the opposition has no breeding ground.

You do not need to have an IQ of a rocket scientist to see how the freedom of assembly has been violated through the oppressive ‘public order act’ in an endeavor to completely destabilize the already opposition.

It is so saddening to hear of the government denying the opposition permits to hold Public meetings, one may wonder if the application procedure for permits is now different From which the PF used while in opposition, for what security reasons do they deny these rallies? Where were the ‘security reasons’ when PF was allowed to hold their
meeting?

My heart bleeds even more to see MP’s vandalize our resources and desolate remains of the opposition by creating expensive by election, as they defect to the ruling party.

As a democrat I understand these defections are legal, constitutional and have a budget allocation for subsequent by-elections but not at the expense of developmental projects and food in-securities should they be condoned.

What hurts the most is the fact that most of these MP’s are defecting not because they want to develop their constituencies but to have their theft and corruption chargers written off.

Fellow Zambian Its time to take advantage of the constitution making process, Let’s consent for the constitution to allow MP’s to defect as this is a democracy but let the parliamentary seat remain with the political party on whose ticket the MP was elected, giving the party an opportunity to find a replacement or better still negate them from re-
contesting during by elections.

I therefore call for well meaning Zambians youths especially, to become the opposition this country needs by objectively giving checks and balances to the PF government NOW,YES NOW! than watch them sink our resources in Four years so we can launch expensive but useless investigations and court sessions that will later end in acquittals.

OPPOSITION CAN ONLY BE STRONG IF IT IS GIVEN AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT. SERIOUSLY, I SEE A LOT OF PROBLEMS IN THE PF PARTY THAN IN THE UPND AND THE MMD COMBINED. SO THERE IS NOTHING TO CELEBRATE ABOUT.

WE ALL VIEW THE WORLD WEARING DIFFERENT LENSES. SOME LENSES SHOW THE GOOD AND SHORTCOMINGS OF THE PF GOVERNMENT AND CRITICISE AND ADVISE ACCORDINGLY. OTHER LENSES SHOW ONLY THE EXEGGERATED NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE PF GOVERNMENT. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT LENSES YOU WANT TO WEAR. WHAT YOU COMMENT SHOWS WHAT LENSES YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO WEAR. THE ULTMATE WILL COME IN 2016 WHEN THE NATION WILL COSE WHAT LENSES TO WEAR DEPENDING ON WHETHER THEY WILL BE CONVINCED THAT PF GOVERMENT HAS DELIVERED TO THEIR SATISFACTION. IT IS WISE TO BE OBJECTIVE AND SEE THINGS AS THEY REALLY ARE INSTEAD OF BEING BLINDED BY HATE.

If any opposition party wishes to do what Sata was doing while in opposition, they will NOT ONLY lack originality, but, will also need to take 20 years (if not forever) to unsit PF. Reason? He knows how to skirt his own gimmicks.

The biggest problem with Zambian politics, is the people themselves, were have let these politicians do whatever they want. The only time people get involved is during election time. Now i agree with Never Mumba, the problems in MMD are being fueled by the party in power, The former boss at the pacra is now being linked to standing on the ruling party ticket, thats were the MMD thing is comming from, most of these MMD members calling for the removal of there president will later resign and go to join the ruling party , for now they have been told to cause as much damage as they can, i think the president is straight and has vision for this country but his team does nt have the same idea as he has.
Secondly, it seems we always investigate plundered resources when people are out of office, so were are the investigation wings and what measures are there to prevent resources from being stolen?
