There is a looming split in the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) structures on the Copperbelt following announcement of the suspension of the entire Copperbelt provincial executive Committee by party deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu.

There is a looming split in the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) structures on the Copperbelt following announcement of the suspension of the entire Copperbelt provincial executive Committee by party deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu.

Mr. Nyangu yesterday announced the decision yesterday said the suspension is in accordance with Chapter five Article 52(3) of the disciplinary code in the MMD constitution.

But speaking in an interview with Qfm News, suspended Copperbelt provincial chairperson Joseph Chilambwe vowed to regroup with all district officials to form parallel structures.

Mr. Chilambwe says the suspended committee is not worried about the move and will continue to champion a good cause through parallel structures.

He has vowed to remove party president Nevers Mumba who he says is illegally holding on to the office.
Mr. Chilambwe says his suspended executive will not allow newcomers to ruin the ideologies on which the MMD was founded.

What is the problem in MMD. I thought Nevers was elected and not appointed. The people calling for his expulsion, were they not among the ones who elected Nevers? Is is because of the Kachingwe issue? Please bloggers, enlighten me.

Logically one cant be president of two political parties. Mumba’s stay at the MMD helm is immoral and illegal. He should step down. Really, Under Nevers Mumba’s leadership the MMD is more than dead.

an imposed leader cannot function in the he will not have the support of grassroots. NM was imposed by RB on NEC. the result is what we are seeing today!! I blame RB for the demise of MMD!!
