Indeni’s KR13, 000 Educational Allowances Annoy NON-Parents
It is with great concern and Sadness to write to you about the Injustice that is happening to Indeni Petroleum Refinery Company. Since the Beginning of this week there has been a lot of hot tempers among the Employees who have no children because as far as Indeni Management is Concerned, they are not entitled to getting education allowances.
If we may ask, are they telling us to go out there and start getting pregnant or Impregnating women so that we can be entitled to this Education allowance? Some of us have relatives we are sponsoring and also our own career development. Why should it be an Issue for us to be denied Educational allowances? Why should the Policies Change this year when all along we have been getting these allowances?
We wish to employ the Government to Look into this matter as it calls for quick response or else it will lead to us boycotting from our duties or going on strike. Looking at the mood of the Employees now one can really see and tell that if this issue is not handled amicably, there is going to be chaos in the company.
Management are paid a lot of Money, they get a lot of benefits and for them they are comfortable even if they don’t get the Education allowances. This year’s Education allowances have gone to K13, 000, 000 (KR13, 000) and only employees that have children above 3years have benefited from this. Please,
We are sincerely asking the Office of the President His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata to Personally look into our issue. We are tired of this Management, they have failed, now that their pockets are full they want to change the conditions? Most of them know for sure that they will not get affected by this because they have retired… and are just working on Contracts. We would love this message to get to the ears of our government. Its too much. We are looking forward to reading this Article in your soonest publication so that the Country may Know what is happening, and also hear the Government’s Response as we know it is a listening government and it will come to our aid

What does the collective agreement say on this same education allowance?

Yes, a very good question…..it says;”employees who are parents to school going children shall be entitled to 13,000 lump sum per year as educational allowance”
further those employees who want to further their studies are granted money towards their education provided it is in line with their duties and responsibilities.

I am in SA. Educational allowances all over the world are applied for by and paid to employees for their immediate families or for them to pursue either their own education or training endeavors, period. What is the issue here?

Adopt one if u can’t produce & you will be a beneficiary. Dependants are not entitled.

Yes it helps pipo with children but my view is that we are all equal at work and should be paid by our work contribution. Whatever happens outside work doesn’t matter. If two pipo employed in the same capacity and do the same work and hours, let them get the same remuneration too. Wives and children are a domestic decision and employers should not have a hand in it.

Educational Allowance as defined in the collective agreement must be applied. If it says payable to employees’ biological children then it must be so and hence you cannot be forced to have children in order to benefit.
For your career advancement get a loan, after-all it is your career and not the company’s

This is a two way thing, reasons being;
Management is receiving quite a lot for education allowance.
And secondly it’s not right for single individuals to get education allowances-coz that money should be used for it’s intended purpose.

Where ever you go SA or USA or China there are condition of servive which you will be availed to you before you are enganged. When you append your signature then that is what will be applied. Now can the author of this atticle tell us what is contained in their collective agreement? You can not compare a developed country with a developing nation which are in two different localities for this matter.

In the first place what does the collective agreement say. What I know is that those who should benefit from most company benefits is the nuclear family…mother,father and children not extended family. If you have no children why should you be given

Me, a Civil servant has never received such huge amounts of cash. Clearly shows that zambian wealth is not evenly distributed. Whilst a teacher like me gets KR2,500 as my salary, others at indeni are getting KR13,000 as education allowance. What a country!!

When you get employed, the companies responsibility is towards yourself, your wife and your children. it is impossible for companies to extend this to your clan period.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT IF THEY START PAYING EDUCATION ALLOWANCES FOR YOUR BULULU’S, YOU’LL SHIFT YOUR ENTIRE CLAN FROM THE VILLAGE IN ORDER TO ABUSE THE GESTURE. I sympathise with those who have been denied education allowance on the premise that they do not have children. In this age we are living in nearly every family has taken in an orphan from the pandemic of yester years. So the pretex of denying a zambia education allowance on the above reasons does not hold water. Remember we are africans and we do not hold nucleus families like whites. To be fair give block sum to everybody.

Bravo Indeni Board,only give ceazar what belongs to ceazar ,the money is supposed to be paid to those with children.That’s our taxpayers money which you want to use on prostitutes and beer no no.Wake up ladies and gentlemen lets not abuse the resources in PF government.Sit down and ask yourselves if you truly pay school fees when you are given that money.Why going on strike ?Be productive and be wise .Always remember to keep your job safe…XT
