10-Man Ethopia Embarass Chipolopolo
10-man Ethiopia embarrassed champions Zambia in a gutsy display in a dramatic 1-1 draw in Nelspruit.
Ethiopia didn’t disappoint today at Mbombela Stadium and showed every ounce that they deserved and earned their ticket to South Africa and Saladin Said tormented Zambia’s star with a man of the match performance.
Ethiopia were unlucky not to have taken the lead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Chisamba Lungu tripped Said in the area.
Said stepped up to take the resultant penalty but found Kennedy Mweene in fine form to parry his attempt.
More drama came with the send-off Bushura Tasew after he pulled Chisamba before faking injury.
Play was stopped for seven minutes as Tasew tried to buy time but referee Castane Otogo was having none of it.
Zambia took advantage of Ethiopia’s deficit and striker Collins Mbesuma slotted in the opener after dancing his way through two defenders to bang in from a good assist off Isaac Chansa.
However Ethiopia refused to be intimidated and took the game to Zambia.
Adane Girma leveled scores in the 63rd minute with his shot deflected off the post before rolling into the back of the net.
Zambia threw everything they had at Ethiopia but Ethiopia countered thanks mostly to the 12th man.
Zambia now set their sights on Nigeria hoping to redeem themselves while Ethiopia have another chance for a potential giant killing act against Burkina Faso on December 25.

What has gone wrong? Same players who shined last year are totally losing direction. Only mweene is showing cosistence. Next game let mayuka, mbesuma and chamanga start the game. Ba chris, jacob bench.

we played a good team and our couch made a terrible mistake by substuting a defender for a striker. That is Musonda for Jacob. He actually underated ethopia after a red card and when we scored one goal.

Two Zambian strikers were too selfish. Christopher Katongo and Jacob Mulenga. Infact Christopher Katongo should be rested for next game. Mukuka Mulenga is our man now. Hichani Himoonde is also a suspect on the back line. Herve Renard please promise we shall never witness such embarrassment ever again

If I had a way I would recall Chintu Kampamba.. far much better player than Himoonde..Christ Katongo was to selfish and he deserves to be on the bench..Am embrassment indeed and I cant see Zambia progessing to the quartern finals…Mamadou Gaye was right when he sais Zambia will go back home with 1 point

Sinkala Chansa kalaba and musonda were the main culplits in that game and do deserve next lineup. katngo and jacob mulenga are selfish strikers who if not talked too will c us coming home early. Chisamba tried his best but ended up getting tired after the runs poor boy. Let the team improve in defending and taking corner kicks. Renard should also make subsitutions on time like what nigeria did to its striker the scorer of the goal.

Guys lets read soccer correctly: Chansa and Musonda had a good game although they’re alot slower these days. The culprits were Sinkala, Kalaba, Jacob Mulenga and Christopher Katongo! Next time we need to start with Mbesuma & Mayuka, Mukuka Mulenga, Chisamba & Sakuwaha. No Kalaba, No Sinkala & please help me with a suitable replacement for Himoonde Hichaani….

Poor reading of the game by the technical staff resulted in poor perfomance. How can you substitute a defender for a wasteful striker when your are reading? Why didnt he take out Kalaba and Katongo early in the first half?
The overall perfomance was very poor, we have to improve in the next game or else it will mean early exit.

Katongo did not do a job. He was after making a name for himself and not for team, just wanting to score even in awkward position. Jocob is so wasteful even when it is clear opportunity. In the next game we try mayuka, mbesuma, sakuwaha and mukuka mulenga. Mweene keep it up. Ba coach make good substitution and a right time. We can beat nigeria.
