The Road development Agency (RDA) has awarded a contract to Gomes haulage limited for the rehabilitation and upgrading of 31.9 Kilometers of urban Roads in Ndola at a total cost of K47.8 million rebased.
Gomes Haulage has been appointed to complete works that were left incomplete following the termination of the Fratelli Locci contract last year.
RDA Director and Chief Executive Officer Bernard Chiwala told journalists this morning that Gomes has been selected out of the sis shortlisted companies.
Mr. Chiwala says the scope of work includes bush clearing and grubbing, road formation, construction of pavements and construction of culverts.
The contract also includes construction of lay-byes, erection of road signs and provision of road markings.
He says RDA is confident Gomes will deliver the project to the expectations after successfully rehabilitating roads in Luanshya.
The contractor is expected to mobilise in the next four weeks and commence works.

A very wise decision, to spruce up my favourite city, although, and sadly, I can no longer live there.

Good news for Ndola residents. And I hope work does start in earnest. I would like to take this opportunity to ask the powers that be in RDA, when are they going to work on the Kabwe roads, especially the ones in and around the CBD? Currently, Kabwe town is a mess of dust and mud because of the gravel roads, yes, gravel roads in the CBD.The shops and offices are so dusty and dirty, and unhealthy! Kabwe CBD roads must be treated as a priority!
