‘Please Help Us At ZESCO, We Have Suffered Long And Hard’

ZESCO-1Editor,

Modern slavery is being practiced in our own beloved Zambia, specifically  in the big conglomerate called  ZESCO LTD.

I have been a temporal employee for the last 5 years with constant promises of permanent employment or contract. Many more are in this plight as we have no representation and therefore no voice. Tumfweko is our only voice.

Despite these 6 months renewable short contracts I, with my own two naked eyes, have witnessed individuals who have done a mere three months being offered permanent jobs, leaving us languishing. The nepotism is so rampart and naked that its shameless.

I write this letter so that bloggers can help me(us) to broadcast this cry for ‘FREEDOM’ in our own beloved mother Zambia.

We are equally Zambians like any one else. We appeal to the powers that be to have mercy on us.
The Anti Corruption Commission can secretly verify these claims.
I rest here.
Yours frustrated and depressed, but still working hard.
Thank you.

I have friends in Zesco and I have witnessed a lot of hard working people getting permanent jobs because they have one skill or the other.I mean having the skills which are required in Zesco and not just mere grade twelve.I would advise you to have a right career to become competitive my brother.

all managers at zesco should go on contracts, like at ZRA.

too many top-heavy chaps at zesco doing nothing much, but hidng under the hard work of others.

also, dismantle zesco into manageable small indepedent units like, generation stations to stand each alone, transmission alone, and all distribution to become indepdendent provincial companies.

    time has come.

if they do that power will be expensive, coz each entity will add a mark-up on their services.thats no way to go.but i admit zesco need to improve in their operations.
i feel for u,its not only zesco.but as others have said hope u going to school and if u have a career try somewhere else maybe u will be appreciated according to ur skill and luck

Zambians should wake up and be brave enough to complain openly when there is an issue. These ananimous complaints do not work. Abash cowardice!! Wake up ba ngwele, ba mbuli

The amount of abuse of office by ZESCO is the worst ever. These casual workers can even be assigned to go and dig foundation for the area manager. Vehicles in places like Mkushi can carry building sand and quarry dust. The past manager used the nachinery for zesco to dig foundation in a hill and everybody was quiet.
Yaluma and Shamenda our president wants you to act.

Selfishness, laziness and ultimately corruption have been the major hindering factors to development. Many people are even seeing corruption as normal and it has been accepted. That is why Zambians are still leading a primitive life. Please let us work up, we can not only rely on others to better our country.Jobs are only given to nephews, nieces, children what a shame.

Truth is, in zambia all we think about is get employed n retire. Its high time we started thinking outside the box! LETS GET SELF EMPLOYED N COMPETE! That will help us improve the economy. Lets first get a trade n then enterprise. Problem is, we r scared of getting RICH!

The problem with the so called temporal workers at zesco is that you guys do not think beyond your monthly wages.Like people have said, are you trained in anything for you to work for zesco. You should have used your 5years income to even do a 1 year craft certificate in electrical so that when zesco wants to employ people you can be considered.Experience alone and complaints won’t take you anywhere my dear.
