Local Zambian Players Complain Being Paid Kr50 For Beating Zimbabwe 2-0
Zambia’s home-based team received between US$ 10 and US$20 each for beating Zimbabwe 2-0 in a friendly in Lusaka on April 28.
The players said on condition of anonymity that it was disheartening to be paid the equivalent of a long-distance bus fare to play for their country.
“Yes, we were given Kwacha 120 (US$20),” one player said.
“Can you imagine getting KR 120 just to play for you national team?
“I mean if that’s the case, I would rather stay at my club. They pay better. It is very sad.”
According to the players, those based in Lusaka were given US$10 while those from outside town received US$20.
“We were told that it was our transport money and nothing else was said,” another player said.
The players spent a grueling six days camped in Lusaka and were also part of the nationwide trials during that same period.
That win over Zimbabwe at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka was Zambia’s first victory in nine matches since beating Bafana-Bafana 1-0 in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on November 14 at Soccer City.

And u wanted how much? That is a platform or rather a stepping stone in your career so if u want stay at your clubs, who will suffer?? That was not a competition u boys it was a memorial match for Gabon crush victims…

Foolish players. You are not National team players yet. You are being scouted or tried. No wonder we never go far. Even before a proper call up, you already want money? Who gets paid for attending job interviews? Stay at Nchanga and lose the prospect of representing your country. OMG. Kwati pali no tuma players.

Who cares, stay at your Nkana or Kalulushi Modern Stars and rot there! There are so many talented young men who use brains and natural talent when playing soccer instead of fimanga atase…ukutumpa atini?!

It was Zambia’s first win in 9 months the last one being the one they won south Africa in November.How many months that have passed? only 6 months.So what kind of reporting is this?carefuller guys.

If the story is true, then these players deserve better than this. You cannot be engaged in national duties and ends up getting such an allowance

I feel most of u who have commented on this article are not soccer funs. Why should you subject yo child to delele coz he/she not mature? U as a parent u r eating a chicken. Players diserved atleast Kr1500 as motivation were did the get takings go?

@Anesutose be serious my bro our Zambia national soccer team players their bread and butter comes from playing football. Nowadays football isnt part time but full time employment ZCCM use to employ players on the C/Belt its no longer the case. Gve dem mane
