Breaking News: Latest Chibombo Accident Leaves Muiltchoice Executives Dead

Two top pay television service Multichoice Zambia executives are among the people that died in the latest Chibombo road accident that occurred last evening adding to a spate of recent road horrors around the same area.

Multichoice general manager Simon Botha, whose wife serves at the United Nations as Zambia’s Permanent Representative in New York, survived the crash with injuries but the company’s technical manager Amos Sakazhila and finance manager Danny Kayongo were among the dead.

Eyewitness say the two people died on the spot in the accident. The Multichoice entourage was travelling from the Copperbelt where it was on duty for the South African-based mega pay television channel. Bota, who was driving the vehicle, is admitted to Lusaka Trust Hospital.

Barely two months ago, 50 people died around the same area when a Postbus travelling from Ndola rammed into a truck in a head-on collision and another 17 people lost their lives when a mini bus from Kabwe overturned following a tyre burst.

Last week, more than 35 people survived minor injuries when the Ticklay Bus from Lusaka careered off the road after the driver lost control. The increasing road horror around Chibombo are causing panic to motorist who are calling on the government to consider building a dual carriage way between Lusaka and Kabwe.

Really how many souls are you prepared to loose before you think of putting up a dual carriage way. The so called The Great North Road looks like its a spur road to a white man’s farm. Please do something about the road. China is ready to construct the dual carriage way now and pay later when you have the money. Please save lives.

Immediate mitigation should be put in the area e.g visible road signs to indicate what ever is the cause of the accident. Alternatively put hugh humps to slow down traffic. Mind you these are just short term solutions.

I do not have 100% accurate stats on what to blame accidents on. But I can confidently tell you that a good part of why accidents happen has to with old fashioned roads and signals. Accidents do happen in countries with the best roads. But ours are pathetic. Kaunda in the 80′s made a dual carriage way – have you notice that the newer road (the Ndola bound) rises above streams and levels nicely on uphills, while the Cecil Rhodes one goes right to the bottom of the river? 50 years since birth and you are wearing the same diaper – can u you be normal?

By now, we should have had dual carriage ways from L/stone and Chirundu to Solwezi. In Chirundu and Siavonga – we should be passing thru tunnels and not climbing the top of the hill with your vehicle kwati ni bakolwe. Where we cannot afford a tunnel there should be a passing lane. This is not rocket science.

The rate at which accidents are happening on this stretch of the road is really sad.
Prayers have been organised to ask for a lot of things from God by church organisations in the past. What will it take for the same organisations to organise prayers to take place on this spot of the road pse before more lives are lost?
Some one some where pse do some thing before more lives are lost. WE NEED SERIOUSLY ORGANISED PRAYERS THERE ASAP!

This is a big concern we are praying but we need to put big slow humps that will slow vehicles to 40km per hour in that case no speeding or loosing control will occur because a vehicle moving at 40km over turns or loose control wont kill anyone except injures only please government help or private companies concerned. RIP

It has come as a suprise to me on how ZESCO has continued issuing tenders to very expensive bidders e.g. Chambishi Capacitor bank project.
According to preminary result released by ZESCO,indicates that they intend to award a contract to a chines company at cost of 3.1 million dollars as compared to other bidders who tenderd for the same project at a cost between 2.2 and 2.4 million dollars. Is this how we are going to be spending tax payers money for the Zambian people?

Please Ba tumfweko, try to block posts that are bent on hatred and profanity. We are one pipo. We have a duty to respect each other regardless of tribe. I am Bemba and that does not make me an automatic enemy of the Tongas as some pipo want us to believe. I have a lot of nice Tonga friends. Block those trying to bring hatred between Tongas and Bembas. Let us see how we can solve the problem of accidents together as a unit. Divided we fall, united we stand. God bless our motherland.
