BMR Donates Ambulances To Kabwe And Bwana MUKUBWA

London.  Berkeley Mineral Resources Plc (BMR), through its Zambian subsidiary, Enviro Processing Limited (“EPL”), has donated two ambulances for use in emergency services in Kabwe and Bwana Mkubwa.

The Chairman of BMR, Mr. Masoud Alikhani presented the two ambulances to the Zambian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency, Mr.  Paul Lumbi at a ceremony attended by Zambian Diplomats and community leaders, at the Zambian High Commission in London on Friday, 17^th May 2013.

During the hand-over ceremony, Mr. Alikhani informed the Zambian High Commissioner that the two ambulances where the first of a fleet of ambulances that BMR wishes to donate to Zambia in the near future.

Mr Alikhani also informed the High Commissioner that BMR is earmarked to reopen the Kabwe Mine, which was closed in 1996.  The mining operations in Kabwe are expected to start before the end of 2013.

Mr Alikhani said that EPL intends to employ former ZCCM Kabwe mine workers who will be central to the operations of the reopened mines. He also said BMR aims to support the much needed employment drive in an economically depressed, but once vibrant and popular mining town.

On receiving the keys to the two ambulances, the High Commissioner expressed his profound gratitude to BMR for the generous donation to the people of Kabwe and Bwana Mkubwa.

The High Commissioner informed Mr Alikhani that the two ambulances will go a long way in supporting the health sector in Zambia, and will be guarded jealously to ensure that they are used solely for emergency purposes as intended.

“On behalf of the Zambian government, I would like to thank  BMR for recognizing the urgent need for emergency health care services and for donating these ambulances to the people of Kabwe and Bwana Mkubwa”, said the High Commissioner.

The High Commissioner also said the Zambian government has been looking for ways to revive Kabwe and that he welcomed the news that BMR plc has invested in Kabwe.

Mr. Alikhani said BMR was making the donation as part of its corporate community social responsibility and as a response to the increasing number of deaths and injuries from the rising number of road accidents in Kabwe and Bwana Mkubwa.

“I hope that the ambulances will strengthen the emergency services in Kabwe and Bwana Mkubwa, so that necessary help can get to accident scenes quicker and victims can be treated more effectively,” said Mr. Alikhani.

Berkeley Mineral Resources (BMR) Plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market and owns 100% of the Zambian registered company Enviro Processing Limited, which now owns the former Kabwe Lead and Zinc Mine, Bwana Mkubwa Copper Mines and several other mineral asserts in Zambia.
