BY SYLVIA MWEETWA -
AN EIGHTEEN-year-old girl appearing in court for allegedly murdering her
newly born baby has maintained her innocence, saying she did not know that the baby would be born after she went to answer a call of nature.
This is in a case in which a juvenile offender is facing the charge of
murder.
She is alleged to have murdered her child on October 15, last year but
pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Last week, the prosecution team closed its case after calling four
witnesses who testified against the juvenile offender before Kabwe
Judge-in-Charge Eddie Sikazwe and was found with a case to answer and
put on her defence.
In her defence, she said on the fateful day, she went to a nearby
bush to answer a call of nature but while there, the baby was born but got scared and ended up leaving it in the bush.
She said she struggled to walk back home and on arrival.
she did not find any elderly persons and that she had no intentions
of murdering her baby.
During trial, a 14-year-old-boy testified that on the fateful day, he
was with his younger brother, while hunting for rabbits with three dogs
in the bush.
The boy said he saw the dogs barking and running but when he checked, he saw a baby covered with leaves and grass.
The baby started crying after the dogs went near and he later ran back home to inform elderls.

But were there any feaces on or near the baby? Or maybe what came out was just the baby and no feaces. So she went to realese shit but realesed a baby. Then got scared to take the baby even when she new she was pregnant and would one day give birth, walked home struggling without anyone seeing her (how far is the place from home, others were hunting I guess there is a distance), reached home found nobody so just decided to stay without telling anyone that she left a baby in the bush. What a coincedence but could be true. Only that I could have asked more questions if I was in charge of the case.

Total disregard for human life. This girl is very much guilty because in her “weak” state, she still managed to get leaves and grass to cover the baby, hoping for what to happen? Why even walk away from the baby if she had no ill intentions? Her story doesn’t add up pantu nang’ombe pabana taya mwaice iwe.
The entire neighbourhood there were no elderly people? What about those your age you could have informed about this incident? Very questionable explanation. Am no judge and jury but this girl had bad motives. May God forgive her for such a cruel act, yangu!
