Chipata Central PF Votes Twice To Eliminate Mangani
THE PF Chipata Central Constituency executive committee was last Saturday forced to vote twice to ensure that Lameck Mangani does not come out in the top three contenders for adoption for the seat.
The committee conducted interviews on Friday but only voted on Saturday morning.
One of the committee members who declined to be named for fear of victimisation disclosed that at first Mangani came out third after Moses Mawere and Pilila Jere but the members voted again to ensure that he was not among the top three.
The committee member said when they voted again Mangani came fifth after Moses Mawere, Pilila Jere, Hanif Badat and Patrick Teleka Chirwa.
“At first the members thought that some of the committee members were bribed by Chishala Chilufya to vote for Mangani and that was the reason they went for the second vote. Initially the committee did not want to interview Mangani but were convinced by the PC (provincial chairperson) Mike Tembo to interview all the aspiring candidates. I think you are aware that we had a meeting with all the candidates on Thursday at the council chamber,” the committee member said.
The source said the committee does not want Mangani to be adopted at all cost.
“Some committee members have mixed feelings on Mangani because of that confusion that broke out at Kapata where the district chairperson was beaten by Mangani’s people. I can tell you that what has happened at the constituency would not be very different from what will happen at the district interviews on Tuesday,” the committee member said.
And another source said the committee opted for Mawere because he had helped the committee in various forms.
“This man came at a time when we almost gave up that we were going to have a by-election. You know before Mawere came last year we were not eating anything at the party office but during his days we are being fed. This man has helped a lot of people by sinking boreholes in different areas of the constituency,” he said.
The source said the constituency wants Mawere or Pilila Jere to be adopted on PF ticket.
Recently former provincial chairperson Lucas Phiri and Chipata businessman Chishala Chilufya backed Mangani as the best candidate for the vacant seat.
Chilufya accused some of the aspiring candidates of being opportunists.
The seat fell vacant after Mangani, the losing PF candidate in the 2011 elections, petitioned the election of MMD’s Reuben Mtolo Phiri.
The ten aspiring candidates are Victor Mwale, Peter Dodoli Nyirenda, Patrick Teleka Chirwa, Pilila Jere, Hanile Jere, Rose Samboko, Moses Mawere, Hanif Badat, Timothy Kafa Nyirenda and Mangani.
The first-ever Chipata Central by-election is slated for July 25.

The Secretary General of PF Hon.Winter Kawimba said several times in recent past that the PF policy is that the one who has sacrificed himself or herself is the one to be adopted. Mangani has suffered enough for Chipata Central to be nullified. Is it fair that the one who went to hunt for game in the forest he himself should not participate in eating the carcus? Where is the fairness here. Leave the seat for Hon. Mangani and PF as a party should remain united ay all times.
