THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Nakonde has arrested a 26-year-old man of Nakonde and a juvenile for trafficking in over 200 bundles of miraa.
Shadreck Silwamba, 26, a driver of Katozi village in Nakonde, has been arrested and jointly charged with a 16-year-old boy of the same village for trafficking in 214 bundles of miraa weighing 97.5 kilogrammes.
This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday by DEC public relations officer Samuel Silomba.
Mr Silomba said the two suspects, who had on May 27, 2013 abandoned the drugs in an unregistered Toyota Corolla in Chanka village along Kanyala road, were apprehended in Nakonde.
The vehicle has been seized by the DEC, pending further investigations.
Meanwhile, the DEC has arrested more than 30 people countrywide in the last five days for allegedly trafficking in cannabis.
The suspects include Elvin Kakoma, 32, a peasant farmer of Lunga in Mwinilunga in connection with 3.9 kilogrammes, Charles Chileta, 30, of Kabanda area in Mwinilunga, for allegedly trafficking in 2.3 kilogrammes of loose cannabis, and Benwell Kamalata, 35, a peasant farmer of Mushona area for allegedly trafficking in 5.3 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Others are Mpongamponga Mofya, 45, of C18 Kawama West in Mufulira for allegedly trafficking in 1.5 kilogrammes of cannabis and Joseph Chiyanji, 30, a vendor of Kalolwa area in Kabompo in connection with 1.3 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Mr Silomba said all the suspects will appear in court soon.
