Dear Editor,
I frequently buy meat from Zambeef Products Plc’s outlets.
The issue on aldehyde being found in imported beef products has left me confused.
Upon my check on the google site, I found out that aldehyde refers to a chemical used in perfume making, flavour ingredient and embalmment of materials which include meat and human bodies in order to preserve their freshness.
If Zambeef is using this chemical on the beef that we consume, what can stop a thought that all other meat processing companies are also using the same?
My appeal to Zambeef, other meat processing companies and the scientists in this country is to give me an assurance that the beef we consume is safe and has no side effects.
I need an explanation as to what are the tolerant levels of consumption of such chemicals through beef.
Are there any side effects? What if beef is sold without such chemicals, do they expect to make losses?
Zambeef is a public limited company and as such it owes the public a proper explanation.

The questions you raise are pertinent and need honest answers. The Post should not sensationalise the issue but use its investigative journalism expertise (if at all it has) to uncover the scam and inform the public in full, truthfully, in the absence of political undertones. We are talking people’s lives here. And can the Post Owners please refute allegations that they are buying farms and stocking them with a view to entering the beef processing industry?

Ba Kafumbe, quit those meats & eat utufumbe, imbushi & the locally bred meats. Avoid Zamebalmbeef & Soweto market type meats. Best keep your own breeds.

Why are some morons on this site supporting ZAMBEEF ambalming us alive? There is also a new release from the ministry of health which has indicated that the meat also contains microbialin addition to Aromatic aldehyde.
It is imperative for all Zambians to be assured that the meat we have been consuming is safe. It is important to tell the truth and if the meat has embalming chemicals let ZAMBEEF be fined and directors prosecuted for grossly endangering of the people of Zambia.
This story has been very disturbing and all those playing politics with it should be ashamed and I can simply refer to them as scam in likeness to murderers.

Interesting comment by Mambwe
“The Ministry of Health Laboratory Unit called “Food and Drug Control Laboratory (FDCL)is NOT a credible institution. Well trained investigative journalists are urged to dig into the archives of the Courts records. They will be shocked to discover that the FDCL was extensively used by the DEC cook false results so as to secure convictions of the vulnerable people in the Courts of Law.
(a) A Court in Ndola realised that the DEC used false analysis produced by the FDCL to try and convict the Patel for importing cocaine plants from India. The defence lawyers had successfully helped the Court establish that the plant materials were actually edible spices.
(b) Another Court in Lusaka ruled that the FDCL had presented false analytical data in Court to the effect that cosmetic products that Mrs Musuka was exporting to South Africa were contaminated by mind-altering drugs.
Bonaventure Mutale and John Sangwa were the defence lawyers who respectively helped the Ndola and Lusaka Courts to expose the false analytical data propagated by the FDCL. The Patel family was a victim of the DEC; whereas Mrs. Musuka was a victim of FTJ Chiluba who tried to inflict further punishment on her husband the Late Ambassador Otema Musuka after being recalled from the Foreign Service.
In the case of the ZAMBEEF saga, if the meet was imported into Zambia, the question to raise is: WHICH OVERSEAS COMPANY USED FORMALIN (ALSO CHEMICALLY KNOWN AS FORMALDEHYDE) TO PRESERVE THE MEET? Yet Formalin smells so strongly that it can be easily be detected in any room where the preserved material is stored. the illegal use of formalin to preserve meet at source, One or two drops of Formalin placed in any room can send occupants flushing out of the room.
Let the Ministry of Health and Food & Drug Control Laboratory reveal the country from which ZAMBEEF allegedly sourced its imported meet products. .Such silly allegations can cost this country lots of tax payers money at international Courts.”

Politicking mwe bantu and if it’s true than we should put blame on government for failing to insure all imported products are fit to enter into the country it’s nonsensical for, Minister of Heath to issue such statement in parliament to day when it’s to late. To Hell with him. And we call upon him to step down. Useless Minister.

Pity the city dwellers who buy from these big meat companies. The simple folk who can’t afford to buy from prestigious butcheries are not complaining.

I am with Wayne all the way. As I said previously, this country can only be in the hands of Zambians and not politicians. They are capable of doing anything even at the cost of human life.
A young man in Kabwe was recently convicted despite saving 74 passenger in extreme conditions in Serenje accident. The bus was at fault and driver was unable to effect the breaks, but because of some lazy govt paid lawyer, the man has been thrown in for 9 months despite witnesses speaking for him (passengers)
This country…?????
