Now Kambwili Castigates Those Against ‘Disaster Stadium’ Name “If you dont Want the Name, You Can Hang”

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has castigated those against the naming of the new Lusaka stadium as ‘Disaster Stadium’ telling them;

“If you dont Want the Name, You Can Hang”

‘You cant please everyone and those not happy will have to live with that. I am sorry but the story stands,” the Sports Minister disclosed and said this in the wake of fans (including FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya) rejecting the name of the new Lusaka Stadium.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for the families of the 30 heroes who perished off the coast of Gabon on April, 28, 1993, Joyce Chabala has thanked govt for the gesture.

”We are very happy and wish the President long life. Thank you very much.”

Hon. Kambwili said government consulted widely before naming the stadium and that the name which was approved by cabinet could not be changed by anyone.

”We cant say ‘Heroes National Stadium, heroes are too many, we need to specify that we are honouring the Gabon Victims Heroes. The most important thing is that we consulted widely and this name came out prominent.”

I think the tone by Mr. Kambwili is more of a chitechi than a man of the people. this arrogance has taken many to the ground. for sure that name is not good. why should we as a nation be on the negative side of things. Garbon, Disaster sure there are other better names than this one

If the government had consulted there would not have been this furore. It is like someone writing a book and trying to have all what the book is about captured in a title of the book. JUST CALL IT HEROES STADIUM. Whoever later wants to know why this name was given can then find out by going to the archives of Zambian football. It is as simple as that.

Looking at the comments on this blog, petitions on TV, FAZ’s sentiments and discussions going on in the country, HEROES STADIUM is what the Zambians want. There is no need to be stubborn Mr Chimbwili. Like the constitution, give the people of Zambia a name that will not be changed by the next government.

    HEROES AND HEROINS ACRE STADIUM
By so nameing of the stadium this will embrace past present and future achievement in sport by all Zambians>
Specific referring to the departed team has to be minimal hence acre may refer to the Gabon team burial ground heheheheheh
The govt should not be blamed for the name underdispute because when the matter came it ws not given the publicity it has now been given.
The name under contention was mere impressed on govt by a cross section of people who took the matter seriously then.

Please Mr president and the cabinet using other country name to me steals up my pride and our pride as zambians.I do appreciate the fact that it was to the idea that it must be specific to the Gabon disaster of our national team but please exclude this name, and for goodness’ fortune’s sake this word disaster should not be there. please do more research. I would rather go 93 national heros stadium.

    Dear Chisimba Kambwili

A guy called Mobutu Seseseko Wazabanga named Congo, Zaire and the majority of people thought it was rubbish and not a befitting name for this great nation but he insisted.

    What is it called today?

Just wait……we will give the Staduim its proper name ultimately!
