Chapter Four

RACHEL

Rachel hated Evelyn Hone College with a passion. If there was a college or university in the world which taught how to drink, dance and sleep around, she would have had a PhD by now.

They were seated outside of On the Run right opposite their college, eating their lunch with the last two hundred Kwacha notes they had.

Rachel couldn’t believe they had spent the whole forty thousand kwacha they had ‘earned’ from that man in the gray Pajero in one weekend in Livingstone! Yah, ala chali lila! “That woman has been staring at us for a long time,” Mwangala nodded her head towards a lady seated in a chi big red car.

Rachel and Shiba turned to look in the direction she had indicated.

“Why balemoneka familiar ba mami balya?” Rachel wondered aloud, trying hard to remember exactly where she had seen her.

The woman suddenly opened the door and came out of her car, locking it with a sparkling car key holder.

“Ba bwela kuno! Mwati tibaziba ai?” Shiba was both excited and scared at the same time. What if she was a wife to one of the many guys they had slept around with? Vima women va manje vina yambapo kupaya ka.

“Hi ladies, mind if I sit down with you?” she asked in an accented voice, wafting expensive perfume.

“No, please join us,” Rachel invited smiling while pulling out a free chair.

Rachel wasn’t a fool. This expensive looking woman wanted something from them and that something was going to be good!

“Would you like me to order you girls some dessert?” she asked, staring at their faces critically.

“What we would like madam, is for you to tell us what you want from us?” Shiba snorted loudly, staring at the thick diamond and gold pendant she wore around her neck. Vima lesbians’ niva ndalama lyonse but she and her friends didn’t swing like that no matter how broke they were.

The woman stared coldly at Shiba for a few seconds then broke into a smile, showing dimples in both cheeks.

“Well if that’s how you want me to do it,” she chuckled at both Rachel and Mwangala indulgently.

Rachel couldn’t help but smile back at her. The woman was very beautiful and seemed very harmless.

She must be lesbian obviously. It wouldn’t be the first time some woman had approached either one of them for some “quality time”. Too bad they were not into it.

The woman casually checked around her, kwati ka spy kamu James Bond film, Rachel smiled to herself.

“How would you like to make ten thousand dollars each for bringing three more girls with you and acting in a movie?”

Sheila almost swallowed the remaining piece of chicken bone she had been chewing on and Rachel couldn’t blame her since her mouth was hanging wide open. Mwangala, being naturally very light looked pale with shock.

Shiba was the first to recover.

“Ni porn film te?” she asked shrewdly, her brain quickly converting the dollars into hard kwacha.

“Of course. As long as you can organize three more girls to come with you by tomorrow afternoon.”

“What type of girls are you looking for?” Mwangala asked at last.

“We want under twenty-ones, preferably students at your college who also know how to keep their mouths shut,” the woman stressed emphatically with a bang on the white plastic table.

Rachel felt as if her prayers were answered. Sleeping with people was easy and fun to do. In her opinion if people were busy spending time screwing, there would be no wars in the world.

“So are you guys in or what?” the lady asked nervously.

Shiba, the sharpest of the group sensed the woman’s unease and decided to capitalize on it.

“Ten thousand is not enough for us. We want twelve thousand dollars,” she said smugly.

Rachel was amazed at her friend! Ten thousand dollars was far more than what they could make even if they could manage to sleep with all the men in the world! She opened her mouth to tell the woman to ignore her friend when the woman stared at Shiba with a look of total hate, it made her instantly close her mouth with fear.

Shiba was not intimidated at all. She was raised in Chawama compound and everyone knew that only tough hules came out of there. If this woman offered them ten thousand dollars as a proposal fee, then there was room to negotiate the price to go higher. The woman took a deep breath in and marshaled a smile on her mouth which didn’t reach her eyes.

“I’ll tell you what,” the woman leaned across the table towards Shiba, “there is a different category in the film which pays seventeen thousand dollars if you are interested.”

Rachel couldn’t believe her ears! Nodding her head enthusiastically, she watched her two friends agree excitedly.

“You’ve got a deal ladies, and here is a little something to use to call me when you have the other girls so I can come and get you,” she grinned, removing a Kardashian Kollection black purse from her handbag and counting out some dollar bills. She gave each girl two hundred dollars and handed a business card to Shiba.

“Remember, you only have until tomorrow afternoon to call me back with the good news. Ciao!”

The three girls watched her go and Rachel snatched the card from Shiba.

“What does it say?” Mwangala, still looking dazed, asked Rachel.

“It just says Diana on top and the word Aquisitioner below it and a cell phone number.”

“That’s all?” Mwangala snatched the card to read it herself.

Shiba smiled at her friends and banged the table three times excitedly shouting, “We are back ba shit imwe!”
