ECZ Changes Exams Timetable for Grades 7 and 12 With Immediate Effect

The Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) has announced a change in the Examinations timetable for grades Sevens and Twelve with immediate effect.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka this afternoon Examinations Council of Zambia Director Micheal Chilala says the Grade Seven examinations will start on 14th and end on 18th October 2013, while the Grade Twelve examinations will start on 4th October and end on 8th November respectively.

Mr. Chilala says arising from the revised timetable, it is expected that the grades seven and nine results will be released in time for grade 8 and 10 pupils to open school at the same time as other pupils in January 2014, while the grade 12 examination results are expected to be released before the end of January 2014.

Mr. Chilala adds that in an effort to reduce on the opportunity for examination irregularities; the grade twelve examinations will start with theory papers and end with practical papers.

He stresses that the early release of grade 12 results will give the school leavers enough time to apply for enrollment in college and universities and reduce the time of waiting before pursuing tertiary education.

Mr.Chilala adds that no change has been made with regards to grade nine examinations.

Meanwhile the Examinations Council of Zambia has also introduced midyear GCE examinations in response to the increased demand for GCE exams.

Mr.Chilala says the introduction of the midyear examination is effective from June 2014.

And Mr Chilala has warned Teachers in the habit of involvement in examination malpractices that the risk facing dismissal if caught.

thats fine but just a dismisal for a teacher involved in exam malpractices is not enough. There is need for a stiffer punishment.

ECZ is a well sponsored institution, but why not give teachers allowances for invigilation and supervising?? We need answers.

Invigilation and supervision are carried out directly under the Ministry of Education. It is only marking of answer scripts which is carried out directly by ECZ.

standard officers are paid too for missing lunch and nights. escorting security officers do get allowances but the teachers do voluntary work as stated. Let the teachers also get something too. We need answers, MWE!

I feel for the pupils. October is the hottest month of the year and studying this time can be daunting with a lot of headaches and migraine troubles. Is this change taken into account of this severe weather condition? Some of these decisions can have adverse consequences.

While you are making these change ba ECZ, consider also giving allowances to teachers involved in supervising of the examinations. Teachers like science teachers are involved in preparing practicals. and are not paid for that. It only the markers who are paid for marking and the poor teacher who did all the tedious work gets nothing. He even prepares the marking key for the marker. A lot is involved and teachers are asked to do it for free. This is on oversight on the part of ECZ

I feel like this is why exam malpractice has risen because teachers are not well paid if they were i tell you exam malpractice will be there but not to this extent. as someone earlier said no allowances when they invigilate and other issues please the government should look into this critically this is what is bringing the education standard in zambia down.
