FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice-president Boniface Mwamelo says his executive is yet to discuss the feasibility of introducing goal-line technology.
In an interview yesterday, Mwamelo said the association will look at the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced refereeing, before implementing it.
He, however, said that FAZ was keenly following the competition in regions where the technology has been embraced, the latest being the English Premier League.
“We believe there are valuable lessons to be learnt from the leagues that will introduce this initiative early.
“We recognise that the pressure on footballing officials is extremely high and making the wrong decision in a match usually draws backlash and criticism. With the help of goal-line technology, referees will be less pressured into making the wrong decision and avoid unnecessary repercussions,” he said.
Mwamelo said should the FAZ executive wish to implement the goal-line technology, a recommendation would be taken to the FAZ council for endorsement and its implementation done in a phased manner, starting with the Super Division.
“However, the issue of cost and reliability [of the technology] need to be considered carefully before we can introduce goal-line technology in the Zambian league.
“Whether the benefits outweigh the cost will require consensus of all stakeholders, and not just that of FAZ and its affiliates. The other major consideration is that technology etches away at football’s traditions and simplicity. This is important, for there is unquestionably beauty in football’s natural state,” Mwamelo said.

Jokes!!!
Hehehe
We have a lot of other pressing issues in our football administration to start worrying about goal line technology. Improving our leagues should be your priority ba FAZ…aim for PSL standard at the very least then bring up goal line techno.

After goal line tech what next. There are more wrong calls on off sides than goal line. Are you going to introduce some technology too?
