CBU Student Says ‘You Can Marry Your Own Cousin, The Bible Supports That & its Not Wrong’

Dear Editor,

I have always wondered why society frowns upon cousin-to-cousin marriages.
The Bible has a great deal to say about such marriages, and not once does it say anything negative. To the contrary, all references to such marriages in scripture are 100 per cent supportive.
In Leviticus chapter 18 (KJV), God tells us all the sexual relationships we shouldn’t indulge in and remains silent on cousins.
Those who oppose cousin marriage often use “any close relative” to base their opposition on. Others will say that just because cousins aren’t specifically referred to doesn’t mean God didn’t mean to include them. They insist this list is just a general rule of thumb, not an all-inclusive command.

I disagree. Leviticus is a book of law. It is very specific and very definitive. The passage begins with “any close relative”, and proceeds to describe all that God defines as near kin, followed by other sexual acts which God forbids.

To say that God meant to include cousins is to assume God made a mistake.
To say that it is only a general list, you must wonder why God was so very specific that he included bestiality, homosexuality, and sex when a woman is menstruating.

Furthermore, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all married their cousins. And if we follow the genealogies of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will find that Mary’s father was the brother of Joseph’s father. Mary and Joseph were therefore first cousins, and both descendants of David.

This means that Jesus was a direct descendant of King David by blood (through Mary) and by status (through Joseph).
So, my question is why is society against cousin-cousin marriages when the Bible is in support of such unions?

I think cousins fall under the envelope of relations. In Lev 18 God uses the term relative in every abomination He has named. You en I both know cousin ni NO GO AREA

I suspect this chap is interested in his first cousin and is exploring ways of convincing the elders in his family to give him the go ahead and blessing to marry this girl. If not he has already impregnanted her and is looking for a way to solve the quagmire. Either way ku libe!
