This follows the revelation by Auditor General, Anna Chifungula, that some contracts awarded for various contractors and suppliers in the run up to this month’s UNWTO general assembly have been dubious.
TIZ Executive Director, Goodwell Lungu says the country risks losing huge sums of money following the awarding of contracts to people who do not even deserve to be awarded such contract.
Mr Lungu notes that it is obvious that most companies were contracted contracts without following the laid down procurement regulations by the relevant authorities.
He has since urged the Auditor General to reveal the exact amounts that could have been saved had procurement procedure been followed.
Mr Lungu says Zambians will not allow elements of corruption in the awarding of contracts because they want transparency in the process and deserving contractors to be awarded contracts.

A fire engulfed Kenya’s main airport on Wednesday, choking a vital travel and trade gateway to east Africa, witnesses and officials said.
Firefighters struggled to contain the blaze at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the region’s busiest, that started early in the morning in the immigration section of the departure lounge and spread to the international arrivals area, officials said.

Does anyone care? The AG always reveals, but who is punished thereafter? May be the office is there just to create employment. Even the way CEEC gave out loans towards UNWTO GA, there was no transparency. Only selected lodges were contacted and offered.
