Mweetwa Says Obvious Mwaliteta Is a Failed Comedian
LUSAKA province minister Obvious Mwaliteta is a failed comedian who only pops up once in a while to try to act out political humour, says Cornelius Mweetwa.
Reacting to Mwaliteta’s comments in Sichili that the UPND was against development in order for it to accuse the PF of failure, Mweetwa, who is UPND deputy spokesperson, said Mwaliteta was a political novice who did not know how to get political identity and merit.
“Of late Hon Mwaliteta has been passing a lot of comments around HH (Hakainde Hichilema) and the UPND. As UPND we don’t think Mwaliteta is a persons who merits our elaborate response; he is a failed comedian. He is attempting to be a comedian but he is a failed one in that he only pops up once in a while to do political comedy and that is how we understand him in Parliament, that is how the people of Kafue understand him,” Mweetwa said.
He said Mwaliteta was still in the political nursery and did not know which leg to take forward first as he attempted to walk the political journey.
“Unfortunately, it looks like he will not go too far in politics,because the kind of politics of insults and name-calling which he wants to inherit appears to be the ancient politics of the past and not present and future politics which should be issue based,” he said.
Mweetwa however added that since Mwaliteta was a young politician, he should be tolerated.
“We should tolerate him when he says even things that do not make even a digit of sense. We should not be too hard on people who are learning politics, we should give him a second chance,
maybe he will learn as he goes on,” Mweetwa said.
Mwaliteta in an interview in Sichili said the biggest challenge in developing Western Province was the UPND’s failure to work with the government.
He said it was a taboo in the UPND for any member of parliament to work with the government.
“They call them weak souls, so if an MP works with the government to bring development, he is a weak soul. They want one to have a hard soul, a very bad soul, one that does not work with the government,” Mwaliteta said.

Some of you bloggers are amazing. Do you expect the UPND to keep quiet when innocent villagers are told lies by Hon, Mwaliteta. If you do not know how govt works, please ask. It is NOT an MP who brings development to an area. It is govt departments in partnership with local people and private sector investors. The govt, through the budget prepared by the executive wing of govt (to which Hon. mwaliteta belongs) through the Ministry of Finance and approved by parliament (to which both the ruling party and opposition MPs belong) is implemented by various govt departments (i.e. education, agric, health, community, forestry, gender etc) through civil servants. What Hon. mwaliteta was telling the poor people of Sichili were lies and he knew it, but because they are poor and illiterate he decided to tell them that. He was actually mocking them.
The primary job of an MP, whether in opposition or in the ruling party, is to debate matters brought into the National Assembly. They debate in line with what their constituency tells them (if they consult) and also in line with the manifesto of their party. They do not implement projects but monitor implementation and lobby the Minister responsible for any area of interest to their constituency. The Minister, being an appointee by the President of the whole country is obliged by law and practice to cooperate with all MPs regardless of their party because the money he uses to spend on projects is tax payers’ money. ALL Zambians, whether in opposition or ruling party or non-partisan PAY TAX. So wake up. I am disappointed that Hon. Mwetwa failed to point out these truths but chose to attack the Minister at a personal level. That is a weakness on Hon. Mweetwa.

But I thought Mweetwa was reacting to an accusation on his party by Mwaliteta. Even if one is a hardcore tribalist, i think it is important to understand what the young man was saying. Mwaliteteta has made a blanket accusation against UPND and you tribalists expect him as the party deputy spokesman to just keep quiet. Eish!! it is now tit for tat. We are tired of Ukwanites and kolwestans always siding with the wrong side/ culprit just because one is a fellow monkey eater. Mweetwa Faka Pressure!!!

Stop belittling a very useful profession. Comedy should be revered not ridiculed. Politicians cant compare themselves to comedians. Comedy heals depression. Politics brings depression.

If you politicians could take comedy seriously we could have an industry employing many people in Africa. Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) is one of the richest men in the world. So was Peter Sellers. John Cleese (Mr Fawlty) is richer than all politicians in Zambia combined.

I have high respect for Mr Mweetwa but you have disappointed me on this one. I cant see what mr mwaliteta had said which can lead you to that outburst put yourself together Mr Mweetwa and continue to serve your people honestly with respect.Insults does not suit you even your appearance. Its sad to hear such words coming from you Mr Mweetwa.you are one of the few politician that i respect who can calm Zambia down in time of conflict.THIS HOW I RATE YOU
