No Body Viewing, Mazombwe To Be Burried at The Cathedral

The Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka and the Zambia Episcopal Conference have announced that Medardo Cardinal Joseph Mazombwe who died in Lusaka on Thursday will be buried on Tuesday, September 03 2013.

The burial will take place at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus at Pope Square after a requiem mass which will start at 09:00 hours but stated that there wiill be no body viewing at the mass.

The church will also hold a memorial mass for the late cardinal at the Cathedral of Child Jesus.

Meanwhile,the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has expressed heartfelt sympathy and deepest sorrow over the loss of Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe.

CCZ President, Alfred Kalembo, said the CCZ is saddened at the death of the great man of God.
Rev Kalembo said in a statement on Friday August 30, 2013 that Cardinal Mazombwe made positive contributions to the nation through his work as an ardent champion of justice and peace.

He said CCZ joins the Catholic Church family and the nation in mourning the death of the Cardinal who was a blessing to the Church and the nation at large.

Rev Kalembo said the beloved departed cardinal will be celebrated as a brave campaigner and advocate for debt cancellation which he spearheaded through the jubilee movement.

The clergy said Cardinal Mazombwe also contributed to the development of the nation through various projects he was engaged in.

He said Cardinal Mazombwe will be remembered for his humility, passion and bravery in executing his duties while holding several senior positions in the local and regional Church.

Rev Kalembo said the late Cardinal was a great inspiration when he served as President in the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) and as chairman of the regional conferences under the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA).

      There will be many people and for the Catholics burial is part of the service, therefore, it is practically impossible to wait for everyone to do the body viewing….Therefore, immediately after the mass the body will be put to rest

    Thanks Chris. Just a slite change on programme, body will be flown to Chipata on Sunday morning to enable eastener faithfuls to pay their last respect to the cardinal and it will come back to Lusaka same day evening. The body will lie in state at pope’s square in readness for burrial on tuesday

    Body Viewing will be there in Lusaka at Cathedral of Child Jesus on 02/09/2013 from 14PM up until early morning 03/09/2013 thn thereafter no body viewing during and after mass
