The Non-Governmental Organisation Coordinating Council has observed that calls to introduce contraceptives for adolescents in Secondary schools are inappropriate.
NGOCC Board Chairperson Beatrice Grillo says early pregnancies can only be reduced by inculcating good morals in children.
And Mrs. Grillo has stressed that calls to introduce contraceptives are just a desperate attempt to address challenges of teenage pregnancies.
She spoke to Hot FM News following calls to introduce contraceptives for adolescents in secondary schools to curb unwanted pregnancies.

Supplying contraceptive to secondary schools will be the waste thing to do because it’s like will be encouraging our children to go ahead with bad morals but just to protect them from having pregnancies and continue with bad morals.
If the girls can be given pills to protect them from having pregnancies what about HIV.

It is a very bad idea against the biblical values. Sex is only for married people husband and wife. You cant encourage sex before marriage especially in schools.Marriage was ordained in the garden of Eden by God himself.A man and a woman shall leave their parents and they will become one flesh.Zambia is a christian nation.Lets uphold the biblical teachings

Yes what you have said is true! But the truth is that these youngsters are having 6ex in schools to an extent of even making videos! Let’s not behave like the proverbial ostrich, of course supplying contraceptives is not an option because, yes it will prevent pregnancies and not the virus! What an unfortunate quandary. Moral decomposition/putrefaction at it’s worst! Like Bikiloni likes saying, Jesus come quickly,if you are delaying we shall instead follow you!

Surely of all the solutions, just decide to bring up the worst of all. Its really sad because I feel this is not right. Lets help by instilling good morals in these children.

SEX is for two married people’ a husband and wife. Any sex apart from these principle is not accepted; and there is no excuse for that.

you sound like someone who has undergone through heavy indoctrination….I mean those days are gone…these are the same NGO’s who were lobbying for the introduction of sex education in the classroom..They should have seen this one coming…now that they have taught us sex education, let them bring in the contraceptives or else…..

We have lost morals nowadays. Things which were taboo are now becoming normal. How do you encourage sex on single people, worse still in Secondary School? When we were growing up, marrying off virgins (both male & female) was a norm, not because of christianity, but traditional values. What more now with the Bible @ our disposal? I remember when I was @ UNZA in the early 80s, they referred to us as “Ba Monk”, and we were proud of that. Nowadays if you say that to a young man of 22, he gets offended – HE HAS BEEN INSULTED!

These are really the last days and Jesus is truly coming soon. Honestly how can we begin to promote prostitution in our schools like that? M’mbano (NO). There are better ways to prevent early pregnancies. Tufyakwa (God forbid) that this should happen in our country

It’s tricky…. we want our children to stay away from sex, yet they are fed with sexually-arousing material everyday from MTV, internet and music.
We say ours is a “Christian nation” yet very few people live by Christian values… mere lip service to Christ.
When I look around at my neighbourhood, it seems only the children of the Watchtower church are morally upright. They move around in twos- boys and girls, young men and women with their books going from house to house but you never see those young girls pregnant until they get married.
I think our children need to have compulsory Watchtower lessons in schools, maybe they have something we are lacking mwe….. better than contraceptives
