SA Doctor Jailed In UK For Sexually Abusing Patients

Delport, 55, tricked his patients into believing he was taking the images of them for “training purposes” or because their symptoms were “the worst he had ever seen”, Kent Police explained.
Other reasons Delport gave patients included; documentation of the healing process, for lecturing purposes and to build a case against midwives at Darent Valley Hospital, Kent Online reported. All these claims were false.
Fake consent forms signed by patients and thousands of indecent images were found by police as they searched his house in Eynsford.
The images, which had been taken by himself or downloaded from the internet, ranged in severity from level one to level five – the worst.
Detective Chief Inspector David Chewter said: “Delport’s patients – some of whom were vulnerable – needed treatment and placed their trust in him. He breached that trust in the most appalling way.”
The incidents occurred at The Oaks surgery in Swanley between 2003 and 2012 with the youngest victims aged between 18 months and two years and the oldest in her 60s, Kent Online reported.
Police were alerted to the married doctor’s actions in May 2012 after a patient’s mother reported him for taking indecent images of her daughter who was complaining of stomach ache.
After a consultation, senior health practitioners agreed that the images served no medical purpose.
Dr James Thallon, Kent and Medway Medical Director of NHS England, said: “As a GP myself, and someone who works for NHS England ensuring that the quality of care provided by GP practices in Kent and Medway is as good as it possibly can be, I can say we are all devastated by this doctor’s behaviour. It was totally unacceptable.
“He deceived patients, colleagues and the practice to commit these crimes. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to patients who have been hurt and distressed by him and to thank all those who came forward and who have helped to bring him to justice today,” he added.
Delport pleaded guilty to 26 offences; four counts of indecent/sexual assaults on adults and three indecent/sexual assaults on children.
He also pleased guilty to two counts of possessing indecent images of children, five counts of making indecent images of children and twelve offences of taking indecent images of children.
He was sentenced on 9 September at Maidstone Crown Court.
DCI Chewter said: “When he pleaded guilty last month he was accepting of the fact that he faced a long prison term, and that is what has been passed today.”
According to Delport’s LinkedIn public profile, he had worked at The Oaks surgery since August 1998.
Up until his arrest, he had been leading Sunday service at Eynsford Baptist Church following the departure of the minister.
“People trusted him with their lives to guide them and give them advice when, all along, he was a paedophile,” a source told the Mail Online.
Prosecuter Anthony Haycroft explained that as taking intimate photographs of an adult is not covered by a specific law, professional misconduct charges were dropped, Kent Online reported.
Delport must register as a sex offender and would be subject of a sex offender prevention order.
Judge Statman said: “May I say how deeply impressed I am that those who have suffered in the way described have had the courage to come to court today.” – The South African

Yangu kapuli uyu amano bubi! That is against the ethics of the proffession! Anyway these things happen! I know about two doctors at Ronald Ross Hospital who boasts openly about dwinking female patients.

So sad indeed. This could be happening in Zed as well. Women please report such cases or attempted cases to the police so that we get rid of rotten medical staff in our beautiful country. They are tarnishing the good image of many good and hard working medical staff.
