Keagan Mumba: FAZ Should Discipline Renard

ZANACO coach Keagan Mumba wants the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to discipline national team trainer Herve Renard for issuing disparaging remarks against local coaches.

Mumba said in Ndola on Saturday that he has written to association’s general secretary George Kasengele over Renard’s remarks that risk bringing the name of the game into disrepute.

Last Friday, Renard told local gaffers to put up or shut up for criticising him following Zambia’s failure to qualify for the 2014 Brazil World Cup finals and missing out on the 2014 African Nations Championship.

“When I voice out something it is professional misconduct, for Renard now justice should not see the blind side of the law.

“I have sent an SMS to the general secretary and Anthony Kasolo [FAZ disciplinary committee chairman] to quote Article 7.10 of the FAZ disciplinary code,” he said.

The vocal Mumba was suspended for 90 days for breaching the association’s disciplinary code.
He also said Renard should not quarrel with the local coaches as the success of Zambian football is dependant on local coaches.

The Zambia trainer teased local coaches for not praising him when the Chipolopolo won the 2012 Africa Cup but Mumba asked the Frenchman to recall that Italian Dario Bonetti qualified the Chipolopolo to the competition’s finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

“It is funny. We never heard them after winning some trophies,” Renard said.

Mumba said Kalusha Bwalya (now FAZ president) won the African footballer-of-the-year award in 1988 when Zambia was tutored by a local coach Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu.

The team reached the quarter-finals at the Seoul Olympic Games the same year.

“Zambia played in Africa Cup final in 1974 and was second in 1994. Zambia almost qualified to the World Cup in 1994 if not for the loss to Morocco and the biased referring by Jean-Fidèl Diramba.

“One can see we have been achievers,” the Zanaco coach observed.

Mumba implored Renard to work closely with local coaches because all over the world players are handled by club trainers.
