RTSA CEO Says He Will Not Report To Solomon Jere
Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko says he will not report to Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere following a heated exchange of words the two had over the mounting of road blocks by RTSA to curb cases of drunk driving.
Mr. Soko says this is because by the Act of Parliament which created RTSA only mandates him to report to the Minister of Transport and communication and not to the Deputy Inspector of Police.
Mr. Soko however, says he is ready to attend a meeting with Dr. Jere at a higher level to iron out there professional differences.
Mr. Soko has also maintained that the agency will continue with its patrols as prescribed under the RTSA Act No. 11 of 2002.

Mr. Jere is about popularity of his appointing authority and not the safety of road users. What a shallow thinking. Next he shud go and lobby abolition of rtsa as well as repealing of drunk and driving law. His govt and Jere will be very popular beyond leaps and bounds.! What a cop.

The battle has shifted from Kabimba and minions to Jere and Rats.Is this an indication that the country is slowly losing direction? Only time will tell.

The RATSA boss Zindaba Soko is just being arrogant and big headed for nothing.Dr Jere was from professional in his approach. He simply asked what books the RATSA people were consulting to inconvinience motorists like that.He also asked him to see him the following day to discuss the issue. Now did you notice that the chap Soko wanted to embarass Dr Jere by asking his juniors if they were emotional and they responded by almost as good as jeering Dr Jere. Why this behaviour?
If Dr Jere wanted he could have mobilised his men also and I shudder to think of what would have happend.
People must learn to work hamoniousely especially that they are working for the same cause-road safety.
I demand for Soko to apologise to Dr Jere.

Read to day’s daily nation and you will be able to understand the cause of all this mess, Dr Jere was called by a lady known as Monica who also had her car impounded and thats how the chief cop rushed to rescue the lady. He went there with a motive to show the lady that he was a big guy who doesn’t fear any one but unfortunate this has just made him to look more less a political cadre.

Did Jere use a professional approach? Nay! I think he should have called for a meeting (oficial) using accepted methodology. He should not have gone to comfront his collegue pa roadside. ‘doctor’ Jere, go back to your drawing board. Lord have mercy on us Zambians. It was as if the two men were fighting over a mama.

Is Dr Jere a doctor in road blocks or not.Why should he stop RATSA from doing what is mandated to them by the law.Police officers are corrupt and they do not want to mount roads blocks for safety reasons but for the gain.

Solomon advising about where to mount blocks? Then he has not travelled to the CB to see how ill-placed the Kafulafuta point is. For a start, it is on a slope and right at a weigh bridge. Meaning, traffic is unnecessarily throttled, and being a slope, trucks have to labour to move off thereby damaging the tar road – it is real eaten up. Many more police check points are similarly poorly mounted. Mr Jere should therefore first worry about the log in his eye way before he whines about the speck in the eye of RATSA.

Zambia Police traffic police must only come in if an offender becomes voilent while RTSA is manning check points. They must just provide security to the RTSA officers when they are manning road blocks. let them be armed like those who accompany Zra(Customs). They must not conduct road blocks or check points. They leave this job to RTSA. Let their job just be protection of RTSA officers on duty.

Mr Zindaba Soko pliz understand that even if RTSA was an act of Parliament, you must report to Deputy IG’s office as instructed.Zambia police is a law enforcing body to which all of us tima vina pelete if we error in the way we conduct ourselves.
Brother Soko pliz ,it does not mean you are reduced to a minion if you go to the IG’s office.i feel it will make your work easier and it will give you an opportunity to share you concerns about the percieved ills of the traffic officers.

Zona mweba ku Chipata mulelaka beka beka. Shame upon you two leaders. You ZP & you RTSA you all work for the common good of safety on Zambian roads. It is so embarrassing for you dependable chaps of Zambia quarrelling on streets of Lusaka.
Dr. Jere you are my respectable man of GOD. Remember when the disciples of JESUS reported to JESUS that they found men casting out demons they said they wanted to stop them. JESUS said let them go on. Who ever is not against us is for us. Dr. Jere you are a jesus in way. Those RTSA chaps are just supposed to continue with what they were doing. Surely they were simply complementing the efforts of ZP.
That is all I can say

Malabishi!!! Who is this Solomon Jere? Is it the one who used to sing gospel music (band?). I agree with someone here who wishes Mwanawasa never died….there was a lot of sanity in this country then….now look at what is happening….cadres are fighting over plots and burning cars. Ministers are fighting each other, nurses and cleaners are getting the same salary and nurses are angry and want to go on strike, the president is busy insulting chiefs with hands in the pockets…ITS ALL A MESS…A TOTAL MESS!!

In my humble view, this altercation was totally unnecessary. If Dr. Jere saw that there was something wrong in what RTSA was doing, why did he not summon Mr. Soko to talk about the issue, rather going to ‘confront’ another colleague by the road. People always defend their territories, full stop. In my view, there was a better way of handling this matter.

Dr. Jere is a big disappointment in my view. Why did he take it upon himself to go and interrupt a road block. RATSA has been conducting these for some time now. The proffessional approach was to arrange a meeting to solve there differences not to go and interrupt a road block. Shame on him. He wants to be seen. Kulibonesha, but it has back fired.

RTSA man is right,
It is RTSA’s duty to do random checks and see if people are complying. otherwise the police will continue collecting bribe.

Does RATSA have the mandate to mount road blocks? I thought “security check points” were for Police? Is not there concern safety of the vehicles, drivers and pedestrians? Let RATSA stick to fitness, road tax and licensing of competent drivers
