It is a huge honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to lead Chipolopolo and starting with the game against Brazil we will do our best to make the people of Zambia happy and work towards ensuring that we succeed now and in the future, Chipolopolo interim trainer Patrice Beaumelle has said.
Giving his fist interview since being installed as interim coach of the 2012 Nations Cup winners, Beaumelle told fazfootball.com that Zambia has a great soccer heritage stressing that the challenge of leading Chipolopolo would only be a success if all stakeholders and people supported their team and development programmes of the Football Association of Zambia.
“Am proud to be called upon to lead this fantastic team. I love my job and first of all, when you’re an assistant coach and you get the opportunity to be head coach you look at various options and with all parties agreed, continuity with a team like Zambia is an honour. But we have to wait to play this dream match against Brazil and after that we can look to the future and get the guidance of the president (Kalusha),” Beaumelle said.
“I’m under contract with FAZ to the end of August next year and today, I’m given the privilege to lead the team against Brazil. Playing Brazil is a nice opportunity for Zambia because we are playing a team that everyone wants to play in the world…We’re playing the World Cup hosts who have one of the best teams in the world and it provides us the opportunity to show that we can compete at that level.”
“The boys know what it means playing at this level and I will take them onto the field to play with their hearts; to enjoy and have no fear; to keep their discipline in solidarity and know what to do when they have the ball and don’t have it and above all play the Zambian way with the ball on the ground and with that we shall have a wonderful outing.”
He said the match against Brazil demonstrated the greater confidence world football had in Zambian football and its administrative ability to work at that high and professional level.
“The game in Beijing next Tuesday will put Zambian football on an even higher level. Its a big opportunity for our football because Zambia will be under the limelight,” Beaumelle said adding: “When you play Brazil, its Brazil. The fans and people must understand here that for any team anywhere in the world, its very rare to play Brazil and all our boys will remember and they will talk about Brazil in years to come as they will continue to talk about 2012 because of the stars in their team, their success, the stars on their shirt and most of all, the opportunity to earn even more respect for Zambian football.”
“Its the time for us to show that Zambia is Zambia and that we’re skillful. We will play without fear. We wills end the boys out to play with their hearts, with solidarity.
“Zambia has a great football heritage and my message to the fans going into this match is that we will give it not 100% but 200% on the pitch. We will show that we deserve respect and to play at this level,” Beaumelle said.
