Briefing the press in Lusaka yesterday, Hichilema, who is UPND president, said it was the duty of Parliament to moderate “extremist leaders” like President Sata.
“I have asked my MPs to go and speak on these issues. Parliament is the one that should legislate to gag people who are excessive. What is the use of Parliament? Parliament is there to moderate extremists like this President. He is an extremist,” he said. “In a democracy, you can only use Parliament; you can only use laws. You can’t use a stick; you can only use laws; you can only use voters like you. Do you think there is a better way?”
Hichilema claimed that he was worried by the “instability in the governance system”.
“I don’t want to be the one that triggers what I think is wrong. I think there’s something wrong with the President. And the nation is at risk as we stand today. There is some instability in there and it is worrying me. I am hoping other Zambians will begin to pay attention and protect the integrity of the nation,” he said. “He can’t take advice… There’s something going on in him because you can see that there is a bit of mutation. He is a difficult guy, but he is getting worse by the day. How can you appoint a guy three times in four days?”
Hichilema accused President Sata of curtailing media freedoms by revoking nationwide broadcast licences for Radio Phoenix and Qfm.
“He (President Sata) is curtailing my media freedoms, my freedom of expression…access to information. Isn’t that fundamental in a democracy?” he asked. “It is the reflection of his dictatorship. He has been camouflaging that he is not a dictator, but he is a dictator. Why cancel the licences that were granted already?”
Hichilema accused President Sata of acting on impulse when it comes to serious issues.
“Before you appoint somebody, you should think through. By the time you appoint them, you have already done the background check, but this man, he works on impulse. In the last six days, we would have a lot of permanent secretaries. One guy just served for one hour, I don’t think he took office. I think he was still preparing himself and he was removed,” he said. “Look at how he has moved Mwamba; Northern Province, Western Province, Eastern Province, Information and Cabinet Office, until he was removed. Bert Mushala, look at how he has moved him; there is something wrong with this man.”
And Hichilema said President Sata had deliberately chosen to ignore his advice on various issues.
“President Sata doesn’t like people who have minds of their own. He likes people who tell him what he wants to hear and that is a tragedy of his leadership. Because you must listen to people with different opinions on a particular issue because you can benefit from those differences of opinion to do something which is better,” he said.
Hichilema wondered why President Sata was scared of him when he was just an ordinary person.
“I am just a village man. So, he is not comfortable with people who he knows that are knowledgeable about things. It is not just Hakainde, even in his own party there. Look at how he is shouting about Vice-President Guy Scott. Was that a matter to shout about, second-hand cars? Is it Guy Scott who allows importation? It is Mr Sata; he is the chief executive officer,” he said.
Hichilema also urged the Anti Corruption Commission to investigate the importation of fertiliser from Saudi Arabia.

Sata is indiectly encouraging corruption by creating job insecurity among top ranking officials in government and soon his ministers.
These changes are a sign that he cannot be advised, let alone controlled. He seems to be all knowing. That is dangerous for my president.I Still have confidence in him.

Haakavotela Heka (H. H) what are you saying you have eyes but you can’t see. ,You H.H you are just a bitter politician who would want to come to state house and divide Zambia. Give credit where it is due. This Nation was near beyond repair because of corruption engulfed the all entire nation where the previous government wanted privatize secondary and primary schools you were quiet. let PF work and criticise them on morrow grounds.

The truth of the matter, MMD did not experience any budget overrun but PF in two years time has irrefutably achieved this. So what should we praise PF for? Is it Employment and Wage freeze we should praise Sata for? Be realistic please.

I’m a PF supporter but I agree with HH. How does one person cancel broadcast licenses for a whole nation? I voted for PF I didn’t vote for the Chinese communist party. I will take my vote to anyone who promises me freedom of speech

It is foolish & acutely insane to be arguing about what is in the future. We shall only prove the fortune teller that told HH that he will rule Zm in 2016 after the elections. Meantime, lets see how they all prep for 2016

THIS GOVERNMENT IS A TOTAL DISASTER. WE AS CHRISTIANS LET US WATCH AND PRAY TO REDEEM OUR COUNTRY. WE MADE A MISTAKE TO VOTE FOR PF;
1. THE POLICE ARE ALL PF CADRES
2. NO ACCONTABILITY
3. NO TRANSPARENCY THATS WHY THEY OPPOSE GIVING NATIONAL LINCENCES TO PRIVATE RADIO STATIONS
4. BAD GOVERNANCE AND INSTABILITY IN DECISION MAKING
5 A DIVIDED RULING PARTY WITH DEMONSTRATIONS A DAILY ROUTINE
6 NO RULE OF LAW WITH A CORRUPTED JUDICIALLY
7 OPPRESSION OF POOR PEOPLE ( LIKE KAMPASA)
COME 2016 WE SHALL VOTE WISELY
