Magande Justifies KCM’s Job Losses

Magande
Former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande has charged that Zambia is not economically positioned to start issuing threats to mining companies to revoke mining licenses due to job cuts.
Commenting on threats by President Michael Sata to revoke Konkola Copper Mines’s operating license following the company’s decision to lay off 1,500 workers due to advanced mechanization of operations, Mr. Magande warned that such threats have the potential to destabilise other mining companies and investors.
In an interview with Hot FM News, Mr. Magande has advised President Michael Sata to allow technocrats to handle the KCM matter.
Meanwhile, Mr. Magande has justified the reasons KCM has given to lay off the 1,500 workers.
He explained that the advanced mechanization at the mining firm is one way of trying to lower the cost of doing business as well as adapting to the modern way of mining operations.

Copper is ours if he has ran out ideas kurma must just go, and leave our Godgiven copper, we can’t allow him just to be taking copper with out paying, zambians must learn to love what God gave you , as for magande he is one of the corrupt leaders who would like his people to suffer, if he can only line his pockets

Magande is right! Mechanized Technology does not require too much labour! Unless people want KCM to continue with the conventional way of Mining!

We should research on how much profit these guys make from the mines. If Lumwana can still run with the copper price at $2,000.00 per tonne, then these guys are just rip offs.
