Shamenda: KCM Is Being Arrogant
Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda
KCM has retrenched 70 workers despite government’s threats to revoke their operating license.
Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda has since summoned KCM management led by its Chief Executive Officer Kishore Kumar to chat the way forward on the retrenching of workers.
Mr. Shamenda has warned that government will not tolerate arrogance from mining firms.
And Mr. Shamenda has lashed out at KCM CEO Kishore Kumar for describing President Michael Sata’s threats to revoke the firm’s operating license as rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Konkola Copper Mines -KCM-has sued the Zambia Revenue Authority over a 3.2 billion-kwacha tax charge relating to exports of copper cathode.
KCM Plc wants the Lusaka High Court to quash Zambia Revenue Authority’s decision to charge a 16 percent value-added tax on the exports from January 2011 to March this year.
According to court papers, KCM also wants the court to reverse the authority’s decision to levy the tax from July.

There is one stubborn short Indian at Mineral Resource department here in Chingola at KCM who does not know much in mining and has wasted millions of money in projects,He needs to go,if it was a Zambian doing that, he would be dismissed already,,and he smells to much spice,These indians cant even buy a spanner how can you run a company like KCM? They are not a good people to do business with, in most countries Indian companies are closed by Govnmts because all they say is that the company has no money,,,how come Anglo used to run the same mine and had money and plenty of copper, but today these Indians has gotten rid of big contractors like, U&M,
