Mongu Man, 98 Seeks To Remarry, Malupenga Forms Fundraising Committee For The Wedding

A 98-year-old man of Moole Village in Ikabako area in Mongu has called on well

In an interview on Sunday, Mushiba Imonda disclosed that he has decided to reconcile with the woman he separated with over 30 years ago because he needed companionship and someone to care for him. He said he was still man enough to perform all the duties of a husband in the house.

Imonda, a village headman, added that he also needed some basic items for use by the incoming wife in terms of kitchen utencils and that his hut needed to be refurbished as it was in a deplorable state.

Meanwhile, Western Province permanent secretary Amos Malupenga who on Sunday visited Imonda at his village in the company of Mongu district commissioner Maurice Litula, Mongu Mayor Doris Kaumba, said he was overwhelmed by his plans of remarrying at such an age.

Malupenga, who contributed K500 personal money for the rehabilitation of the old man’s hut, pledged to do his best to ensure that Imonda remarried in line with his wish of having a basic ceremony. Malupenga has since appointed Mongu district commissioner Maurice Litula as chairman of the fundraising committee. He also appointed Mongu mayor Dorothy Kaumba to be matron for the wedding.

Malupenga said Imonda’s desire is confirmation that God created man not to live alone. He said when God created Adam in the Garden of Eden, He said it was not good for a man to live alone and proceeded to create Eve for companionship and also to reproduce and fill the earth.

“So you can see this gentleman here at his age, even if he is says he is strong enough to perform the functions of the husband in the house, I don’t think he wants to re-marry for the purpose of having children. I think he wants to re-marry for the purpose of companionship. And I think that goes to underscore God’s purpose for mankind,” he observed.

“The man feels empty and I think he has looked around and seen that even if I left that woman some 30 years ago, she knows me better and I don’t think she can say no, so he has proposed and the lady has agreed to re-unite with him,” said Malupenga.

Malupenga has since set November 30 as the wedding day and has promised to grace the ceremony.

Surely Malupenga must be an asshole. Is this something to even bring to the nation’s attention even if you are trying to distract us from Sata’s pangas?Sounds more like something coming from a senile man.And on TV the old man did not even say anything. And by the way this is the first we are hearing from PS Malupenga after the allegations of corruption against him by Mwamba. That is the news you should follow up ba tumfweko not this issue bordering on senility.

But where are all the relatives/children?Children and relatives should learn to help family members by helping when there is need to do so.It is not normal for an old man to leave under such a shelter/structure when there are people around.Anyway, thanks Mr.Permanent Secretary.

So why appoint mayor and dc to be part of the organising committee, why make this really a big issue when we know there are better and important issues to direct the raised funds to? This is total madness let them just do a simple like anyone else in his village, atombe! Chapwa… I wonder how old the wife is and hope its not the tax that I have been paying that is being used for transport coz I also need a house warm up party

There is no problem if he is marrying one in his “age bracket”. What we do not encourage is him to marry a very young lady when he is already a step below surface at that age.
