Striking UTH, Livingstone Nurses Issued With Exculpatory Letters
Over 200 nurses at the University Teaching Hospital UTH have been issued with exculpatory letters after defying government’s directive for them to resume work.
The nurses have, however, refused to collect the letters saying they have been issued by UTH management who are not their employers.
In Livingstone, the workers who have also been issued with exculpatory letters have accused management of intimidating them.
They have, however, maintained that they will not resume work.
And Health Workers Union President Chrispin Sampa who met the workers at Livingstone General Hospital had difficulties in explaining the union’s position on the ongoing sit in protest.

Govt will not accept this condition of K10pin because other civil servants will join the strike which be more costly than hiring the nursing services from other countries. I mean they may be fired! And replaced by expatriets on Govt to Govt agreement! Be careful nurses!

the gvnt made a promise to meet their demand by Nov monthend. @mwamba if u lack information on some issues better keep quiet. their complaint is very genuine coz those guys feel betrayed by their own gvnt & employer. let the gvnt learn to promise & fufill. its saddening 4 de gvnt as the mother body as far as issues of employment & labour related matters are concerned to fail to address the nurses in a manner befits it. they ll fail to enforce labor laws into private entete if such issues are undermined.

@kabimba, which government promised them K10,000 salary + K2,000 housing + bla bla bla = K14,000? Firing them will teach others a lesson.

Transfer them to rural areas e.g Luano. Civil service is not only at U.T.H,K.G.H,K.C.H, L.G.H e.t.c . That’s why………………..

nurses think that they are the only civil servant. plz give them a bullet each so that they know that they should not argue with the government. after all they not the sacred cowz in this country. people are cry for jobs but they are playing with jobs.

Most of you live in the dark. Minimum foreign salary for such skilled personel is USD 5000 globally, so raising the salary to even K10 000 is even less by more than half the global scale!
The main mistake government made regarding the status of nurses salaries is to level their salary with unskilled Classified Daily Employees (CDE’s).
The biggest problem government has made is the difference in terms of salary between health workers! Doctors are paid four times most civil servants! Meaning, an average Doctor is paid over k22 000!

It z not nomal 4 a cleaner to get same salary with a skilld work. A nurse goes 4 training 3 yrz while a G7 or G9 can work as a cleaner. This hapend also in 1 of cotton companies were a guards stated geting mo dan extension oficers.
