Government says it will not take seriously the resignation of Geofrey Mwamba as Defence Minister.
Chief Government Spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya has told Hot FM News in an interview that this is because Mr. Mwamba has not officially written to Government that he has relinquished his position.
Mr. Kapeya said Mr. Mwamba has only resigned by word of mouth making it difficult for government to believe and make a comprehensive statement.
Mr. Mwamba earlier announced his resignation as Defence Minister with immediate effect.
And Mr. Mwamba says he will consult the electorate in Kasama Central on whether he should relinquish his position as area Member of Parliament.
Mr. Mwamba has explained to Hot FM news that he has decided to resign because President Michael Sata is not happy that he went to see Paramount Chief Chitimukulu yesterday when there is a standoff between government and the Bemba Royal Establishment-BRE-.
He said the President also accused him of having lied to the intelligence officers that he was sent by the head of state to go and see the Paramount Chief.
Mr. Mwamba said he cannot continue serving in a government where he is not trusted by the President.

Chineke oh oh.I cannot be supprised.PF is full of suspision and this suspision will kill the party very soon.GBM is a man who is rich and fulfilled.he has enoug not to keep holding to a political position. He is the man himself.
If he has really resigned, then it is a good move and Sata has to learn from this and not just say”it is good riddence.”
Whoever, want a favour will simply make an allegation against the purpoted enemy, whether guilty or innocent.
Opposition guys if you put your cards strategicaly, you may win 2016 elections.

I support GBM on this one.The man has endured the punching from Kabimba and the post.It started as bribal issue and the fight went endless.Even the recent reconciliation was just sugar coated.Yes,the president wanted Kabimba and protected him by all means even when the party never wanted him.Its good the one they accused of sponsoring the confussion is now out.Amazing, why saying now that his resignation is not accepted?Go GBM go,you have my support. They thoght you cant resign as if you survive out of politics when you made your money way back.SHAME ON MEMBE and KABIMBA.Even bu MP filekeni shikulu MWAMBA wesu.

Mwansa Kapeya, just like a true Vuvuzela. Sata a true divisive fellow. Nothing about Sata suggests he can unite this country. It appears his long and sustained consumption of tetrahydrocarnabinoids keeps him dangerously myopic.

In essence, GBM’s heart is not with PF. Why would he have to ask the people of Kasama whether to continue as their MP or not? The best he can do is to resign from PF and join the opposition, preferably UPND where he can compete for presidency with HH since they both claim to posses a lot of wealth.

Beenwell Mwansa Kapeya, what letter are you talking about? People hold a place briefing and announce their resignation . In as much as it is bad that GBM has announced his resignation , the best way is to show leadership and accept the status quo , its too late to hide this part of drama unfolding in Pf . Government should own up and provide some confidence to the citizens by showing that no one is indispensable that’s what leadership entails stop promoting indispensability in government by wanting to plead for people do not be held at ramsom , its time to leave for him. Open new chapter , its also not good to have a defence minister who opts to resign and he is pleaded for , that is creating a monister in government.GBM go well akabwelela kalalya , you will be embarassed next time they will fire you on flimsy grounds . You have showed principles and some morals just go .

There’s no such thing as ‘bemba royal establishment’, it’s the Bemba Traditional Council (BTC). The only BRE in Zambia is the Barotse Royal Establishment.

This is what it is some times it can be so embarrassing for the head of state to behave in such a manner why didn’t he wait for GBM to come back and then ask if what was told to the president by an o p officer was true. and then castigate the man we are tired of these embarrassment on the ministers in public that is not good and it does not show respect among themselves after all we voted and its not like he just put himself there respect is very vital and cardinal.last time it was mukanga only to be told you are a chipuba in public honestly Zambians is that the kind of president we voted for ?

can someone please tell me why president sata has an issue with BRE or is it with Sosala? this is getting out of hand. In as far as i know, the governent should not be pokking its dirty nose in the affairs of the traditional kings. The BRE establishment should be let to chose the king they want accordingto their tradition not according to the president. his positioin on this matter should be similar to that of the queen and the british government when it comes to making laws. i am really lost here. Does sata have someone in mind who he wants to make king of the BRE?
