Heavily Armed Police Deployed at Radio Mano to Block GBM

Over 50 armed policemen were deployed in Kasama this morning in what residents believe was an attempt to block Former Defence Minister, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba from featuring on Radio Mano at 10am.GBM was scheduled to feature on the live program to explain development projects in the constituency.

The Former Defence Minister said he is in his constituency on a retreat reflecting on his future and does not wish to generate any contention .

Mwamba who is Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama Central Member of Parliament said that he had taken time off to reflect on his past and the future.

“I am here with my family. I want to go and check on my land where I want to start farming. I am with my wife, grandchildren and my other relatives. We are having fun, I like infinkubala, I am reflecting on my past and future,” said Mwamba.

He wondered why people wanted to make his resignation an issue when he did it on moral grounds.

GBM said that the heavy presence of armed Police officers in Kasama was creating tension among the people and has since asked government to allow him enjoy his peace after leaving government.
He said that the heavy presence of police in Kasama had created an impression that there was confusion and tension when there was nothing to panic about.Mr Mwamba was speaking ahead of the arrival of two ministers Miles Sampa and Jean Kapata dispatched to meet with local party officials.

Mwamba said that there was no reason why government should send armed police officers in riot gear as if there was tension or anarchy in Kasama adding that he was enjoying his peace with his family.

“The people are worried about the heavy presence of police in Kasama and they fear it could be because of my presence but I think there is no need to panic. I am getting fillers that some people think I would incite people to violence but for what benefit would I be doing that? I cannot do that and I am above such politics. I resigned on my own because I had to defend my family,” said Mwamba.

The Kasama parliamentarian said that there was no need for the authorities to get agitated by his resignation from government advising that government should be happy that he had decided to resign because his family was special than political appointments.

He said that the action he took was out of principle adding that mid this year President Michael Sata sent him to Northern Province to discuss the impasse between Bashilubemba and government over the enthronement of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu and that the Head of State was aware of what was discussed. Mwamba said that the continued silence and disparaging remarks against the Chitimukulu by government had annoyed the people of Kasama and Northern Province as a whole hence his decision to quit from government.

“They have told me that they are not happy with the decision by government to degazette Chief Mwamba as the Chitimukulu. This matter has been discussed at length with the President. But you see people here are asking me as their MP what is happening. There is no answer. I cannot tell them anything because the President has said nothing over the issues and my fear is that when I come back in 2016 to ask for votes they will reject me because it would have meant that I have failed them,” said Mwamba.

Meanwhile a Kasama resident said this is a sad day for Zambia.

‘GBM is MP for Kasama Central and today, he can be prevented from speaking to the electorates. Parliament has a duty to ensure good laws are made for Zambia.People in Kasama are very annoyed over this development. Sata does not know that he is decampaigning himself by appearing this desparate,’the resident said

Ha ha ha aa!I can see that zambia is turning into a one party state. What is the essence of deploying more than 50 armed police officers in Kasama to broke an innocent GBM who is a citizen of this country. He was given 2 options and chose one.why should he be intimidated?I know some fools like MPs from the opposition MMD and UPND who are serving as deputy ministers would have chosen to disown their relatives for a ministerial position!GBM is unique

    Hi,
Its quiet disappointing da president has failed to tell da nation da reason Y they have failed to explain to da pipo of zambia why they failed to recognised this chief.
Then to my pipo discussing dis issue, let us simply ask da president to explain to us.

    Dear Zambians.

Zambia is not for Mr Sata, Mr Sata must learn that the comfusion we see in other Countries start the way these are moshrooming in Zambia.

Mr Sata should pretend that He has the solution the problem the Nation has faced. Let Him tell the Nation the reason why the bembas must follow what a bisa is saying. With GBM I do not see the reason why the police must even agree to go there please police of Zambia do you reason. Mr Sata if you have failed Sir Leave the Conutry the way you failed it.
Remember the of C Mando to in 1989.

There’s too much rubbish in PF government. Police officers are now beating innocent people at will. Wen u go into Kitwe town center u will be greeted by teargas. Now it’s police officers surrounding radio mano to block an innocent GBM. PF should not think that it’s indispensable. This is exactly wat made us reject MMD. Too much power and taking people for granted. Mwayamba ukupusana ne mfumu nomba.Wu do u thnk u ar? Go ahead kwati RB & u wil see hw u ar goin 2 b unpopular in northern province

Registrar of Society must revisit the original constitution of Radio Mano. I am now worried as the one who birthed the Mano idea. When I thought of a Radio Station I never envisaged this lack of integrity by which ever party. I now feel like the man who invented the AK47. This station was formed for information and development and not for political confusion.

People of Zambia its now time for you to see the real person your president is. Historically known as king cobra and precisely the only way he knows how to lead. He is now showing himself as a dictator and whoever goes against his wish will face the wrath of the king cobra. He wants to do things only his way. He will not even accept the traditional customs of kingship. He has fallen out with most of the traditional rulers.
