Government To Revive Mansa Batteries

From TEDDY KUYELA in Mansa
GOVERNMENT says it will soon revive the defunct Mansa Batteries Company in Luapula Province to promote economic development in the area.
Luapula Province minister Benson Kapaya said the move is aimed at creating employment opportunities for the local people.
Brigadier General Kapaya said in an interview in Mansa yesterday that Government is working hard to expeditiously revive Mansa Batteries Company so that it can contribute to the economic development of the area.
“In Mansa, we have a lot of manganese, which we should continue mining to create more jobs as well as wealth for our people. If we re-open Mansa Batteries Company, the mining of manganese will be enhanced,” Gen Kapaya said.
He said Government wants to revive Mansa Batteries Company to support mining of manganese in the area which is the main raw material used in the manufacture of batteries.
Gen Kapaya said Government has already conducted a feasibility study on manganese mining in Mansa.
He said Government is confident that once operational, Mansa Batteries Company will start producing electromanganese dioxide within the country.
He urged local and foreign investors to consider setting up a manganese-processing plant in Luapula Province so that the mineral an be processed within the region.
He also said Government is in the process of reviving Kawambwa Tea Company in the region.
Gen Kapaya, however, said it is sad that the Zimbabwean investor who took over the operations of Kawambwa Tea Company has abandoned the company without paying the workers.
“What is happening at that company is very sad, where the investor has run away and has not paid the workers a lot of money he owes them.
“This is what Government wants addressed as a matter of urgency so that people’s living standards can be improved in the area,” Gen Kapaya said.
He also said Government is also working out modalities to revive Mununshi Banana Plantation.
He said this will contribute to the creation of wealth and job opportunities for local people.
Gen Kapaya said Government has started looking for land which will be given to the Zambia National Service (ZNS) for a banana plantation in the area.

How can it be impossible with Mansa batteries and yet it became possible with Nitrogen Company in Kafue? Anyone thinking in those lines is mentally defunct. This govt means it and they’re doing a commendable job. Only those who have chosen to be blind can say the way some of you do.

In 1976 Kawambwa tea had 1200 employees by the end of 1984, it had 3000 then 1999 it had 4000. Today they are less than 1000. We need action not pictures people have suffered a lot to the extent doing peace works to villagers out side the estate. REMEMBER ONE TEA TREE CAN STAY 45 YEARS.

This LP album was composed long time ago. Mansa batteries will never come to life again. Who will even buy batteries in this time and era. Government should jst consider opening a mangenise mine and name it Mansa mines. Let it be incoperated in the INDECO they want to form. They shud also open a fishing industry…plus the rice farm project coming, luapula will be second to Northwesten in terms of wealth creation

@ Isaac…always supporting PF even when things are wrong…awe sure!! Anyway as for me and my family I will never again vote for a smoked out president (like someone said)…never again. The guy is confused, a lunatic and extremely heartless. Surely how can he let the people who voted for him in such huge numbers suffer like this? He said he was increasing fuel and mealie meal coz he could not appease the rich. The rich rarely eat big portions of nshima because they have rice and pasta to supplement…its the poor who are hit the most!!! Malabishi!

Respect his feelings towards the same person you are calling a lunatic. In your own wisdom, or is it the lack of it,you think the incumbent is a ”loony”! Go on vote for a person of your choice, no qumas! In Isaac’s eyes the President is a gem…respect bane, respect, it does not hurt to respect elders!

This is not viable! The cost of producing one battery at Mansa batteries was 7 times more expensive than importing from SA or Zimbabwe! That company cannot be sustained! Was this project in the budget? We have an illiterate mad man at state house who lacks basic understanding of economics.

@ Isaac. You need to go school. This is not biblical sayings of ‘Let there be this or that” There is need for detailed planning, resource allocation, specialized manpower etc.

Sata must be very careful with KK. KK is misleading him in the hope of making him fail. KK failed that is why we removed him. He wasn’t happy when this happened and he never got a chance to revenge on what the Zambian people did to him (Removing him from power). Chiluba never gave him a chance. Mwanawasa tolerated him but never gave him a chance to mislead him. RB didn’t give him a chance either. Sata has given him a chance via the Post and by the time he realizes, it will be 2016 and too late!!
