Lusaka’s Street Parties a Menace

THE increasing illegal activities around Lusaka city is a source of concern and calls for quick intervention by law enforcers and all concerned citizens.
The Sunday Mail through its investigations has uncovered illicit happenings on Lusaka’s Panganani Road.
According to our investigations, the road which is famous for quick panel-beating jobs among motorists during the day wears a different tag on Sunday nights in particular.
On a Sunday night Lusaka’s Panganani Road is turned into a mock section of the real Hollywood City as lewd street parties flourish there.
A large chunk of the road is totally covered by revellers who hold the famed street parties.
The most saddening thing is that apart from ear-splitting music these street parties go along with illegitimate activities such as illicit sex, drugs and alcohol abuse.
While some pubs follow the statutory age restriction of 18 years and above, the Panganani Road parties are open to all with young patrons dominating the show.
Not too long ago, the Sunday Mail also uncovered the evils happenings on Emmasdale’s Devil street.
On Devil Street, it was revealed that teen sex, drug and alcohol abuse, violence and all forms of notoriety are flourishing at a shocking rate with young revellers flooding the shore.
These and many other illicit activities are taking root not only in Lusaka but other parts of the country as well.
With mostly young people under the age of 18 being involved in illicit sex, drug and alcohol abuse, one wonders where our future leaders will come from.
As long as we entertain activities like the ones taking place along Panganani Road and Devil street, then the future of our country is bleak.
The young people who patronise these places should be in schools laying a foundation for their future and that of the country as a whole.
And if they are in school and patronise these night clubs which we all know is a fact, then their concentration and input in their studies are compromised and consequently their destinies.
As for street parties taking root along Panganani Road we implore the Lusaka City Council and Zambia Police Service to take action before the mischievous happenings spread to other parts of the city.
The street parties are no doubt illegal and an abrogation of the Public Order Act as they are conducted without the knowledge of the police and the Lusaka City Council.
And as far as we are concerned, the only people who are legally-entitled to block a street are the traffic police officers or if a company is carrying out road works.
While we appreciate that the police has promised to conduct serious ground inspections in all townships in Lusaka, we expect them to be more vigilant and proactive in maintaining law and order.
The cases of Panganani Road and Devil Street are prima facie; we don’t expect the police and the Lusaka City Council to take unnecessarily long before enforcing the law.
On the other hand, the underage patrons of these places come from homes. We implore parents and guardians to take responsibility and nurture these youngsters into responsible adults who will be able to contribute positively to the welfare of their families and the country as a whole.
All in all, the onus is on law enforcers to stop this rot in the name of street parties for a better and morally-upright Zambia.

This really makes sad reading. I am wondering on why someone had to name a street after the devil!!!Surely can a Christian nation expect good from such a street? Change the street name and have all law enforcers on their feet to curb such practices in the two mentioned places and anywhere where there are such occurrences.

In support of Tione, surely who named that road after the Devil’s name, in this Christian country for that matter? I personally have never seen or heard of a street bearing Jesus’ or God’s name. Now how come? Is this from the civic leaders? No wonder why even Satanic churches and evil activities are tolerated here in Zambia. Please the law enforcers do something about it. Let all those patronizing such places be put behind bars for a long lasting solution, a lesson that they will not easily forget. We are too complacent. We see such things and just remain quiet. Let us all rise against such vices and work together with the Police and other agents promoting human dignity, good behaviour, people who fear God.

Zambia may have a veneer of Christianity but the truth is that the whole world is controlled and governed by the Devil. He is the master. Matthew 4:9. 2 Corinthians 4:4.

As you rightly put it, those children are coming from homes hence blame the kids themselves and their parents. Also complain about the too many condom and circumcision adverts on TV and radio, these are corrupting morals as children are getting excited and inquisitive because of the messages they see and hear every 2mins. I have never been to a western country where they advertise so much insele.

We need to have people with a passion in policing. Why so much indiscipline on this street in lsk is because policemen have folded their arms and wait only 4 their salaries, its a shame.

@Bullu I wish to conquer with you and it makes me wonder as a country where we are headed. Every time you listen to the News on radio, it is followed back to back with circumcision and condom adverts. It’s just too much!

As for street parties and illicit activity, it’s up to parents, the organizers and Police to sort it out-it’s more of a responsibility thing.

Also the ease with which we swallow the dictates of the western world hook, line and sinker at the expense of our morally upright culture! So much suffering to better our livelihood yet there is money to promote condom use, circumcision and not general cleanness environmental health! What a rotten society. Say what you may ‘Devil’s Street’ is catchy and descriptive of what goes on and is bound to remain that way for years to come! The public is better at giving meaningful names that stick than civic leaders. Zambia has a frustrated youthful generation lacking where to direct their energy thus drowning themselves in all sorts of illicit delinquency! It’s a pity really but who is to blame? We all share in the blame one way or another!
