Harare Women Stop Washing Private Parts For Fear Of Having Cervical Cancer

In a shocking incident, many women from Harare have reportedly vowed to stop using tap water to wash their private parts in a bid to avoid developing cervical cancer.

According to Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey of 2010, cervical cancer accounts for 32% of all cancers among women and nearly 1,500 people die of general cancers in Zimbabwe every year.

“We no longer want want to wash our private parts with tap water because it might cause cervical cancer. We are not biochemists, but we worry about our health and need to take precautions,” Rita Nyamupinga – Female Prisoners’ Support Trust director told Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni during a residents consultative meeting recently.

Cervical cancer normally develops in the cervix, which is the lower narrow part of the uterus. The uterus is the hollow, pear-shaped organ where a baby grows during a woman’s pregnancy.

Christopher Magadza, a researcher and water expert, told journalists during a wetlands media tour that Harare, due to loss of wetlands, is being supplied with water that contains 50% recycled urine. Therefore, half of the water that Harare residents drink, is made up of other people’s urine!

Did u interview all the women in Harare? Was it door to door? Were they unanimous that this is what they have decided to be dooing? This is a fallacy of generalization. Please, for the sake of human dignity and respect for women, let us be prudent in the manner of reporting certain issues meant for public consumption. Thanks.

Very funny, but sad development for drinking urine-polluted water. Hope Mugabe drinks the same water, if not he should make everything right for everyone or he should start partaking in the urine being fed to his citizens. Let him act quickly.

The Vulva should be cleaned with water only, no soaps. Soap should only be used to the outside only.

Most women are avoiding washing their vaginas with soap or inserting a finger there because of the risk of getting cervical cancer. I used to insert my finger inside my vagina and clean it until it squicks but since 2011 I stopped because a workmate warned me that it was not good. So from 2011 up to now (3 years), I have never inserted a finger in my vagina when bathing. I just clean the outside with soap to take away any smells.

I am not a medical doctor but a lot of your fears are unfounded. They are not supported by scientific evidence. Many of our beliefs are shaped by information which is not true. To be honest, I do not believe that washing of private parts using water and soap can cause cancer. Even the inserting of the finger in the vagina cannot cause cancer. This can only be true when the finger has cancer causing bacteria on it. If the mere inserting of the finger can cause cancer, then even the mere act of inserting the penis into the vagina can also cause cancer. There is overwhelming scientific evidence that cervical cancer is caused by a virus. This virus is mainly carried by uncircumcised men who do not clean their penis. They transmit this virus during sexual intercourse. Such men are therefore advised to thoroughly clean their ”guns” with soap and water. This will significantly reduce the occurrence of cervical cancer in women. Women are also advised to watch their diet. Women should not go overboard with meat. Eating too much meat can greatly increase the chances of many types of cancer (including cervical cancer). This does not exclude women from observing high standards of hygiene. Washing of the vagina with soap and water will actually help to get rid of many bacteria which can cause many other diseases. It will also help to eliminate unpleasant smell from the vagina.

That’s one way of dealing with the transfer of HPV. They must let off such a God awful stink that no man wants to f*ck them. Thereby reducing prevelence rates.

      Its being unwise.
