The MMD in Western Province has warned that the party should forget about the province if Michael Kaingu is expelled from the former ruling party.
But MMD national secretary Muhabi Lungu said he would not administer the affairs of the party in the press.
Provincial chairman Kameya Katongo said in an interview that the party was not pleased with national secretary Muhabi Lungu’s move to charge Kaingu for conduct likely to bring the name of the party and the president into disrepute, ridicule and contempt.
“In our constitution, Muhabi has powers to charge any party official, from his deputy to the last person, not the president or the vice-president. It is surprising that Dr Kaingu has received a charge letter from Lungu because we are still using the old constitution, which was reviewed and reproduced from the 2011 convention. So where did Muhabi Lungu get those powers?” Katongo said.
He said if Lungu and party president Nevers Mumba did not want Kaingu to remain in the party, then they should forget about the support the MMD was getting from Western Province.
“The action taken on Kaingu is unacceptable and we are not going to support it. That is why Western Province resolved that the party should go to an extra-ordinary convention so that these issues are ironed out. The manner in which the party is currently being run leaves much to be desired,” he said.
“We want the party to go back to its drawing board. Otherwise, we are behind our party vice-president and should he be suspended or expelled, the party should forget about Western Province. If you want to knock out Kaingu, then knock out the whole province. We are all MMD members, and if there is a problem, we must solve it amicably. So we are warning that should anything happen to Kaingu, they will see here in Western Province.”
But Lungu said he would not be drawn into discussing party affairs in public.
“The general public is entitled to as much information on this matter as is possible, but I have no intentions, as a national secretary, to administer this party in public,” Lungu said.
“I have taken action and have written letters that have been dispatched to respective office holders and Mr Kameya was not one of them. Ba Kameya is a member of the party and if he has any grievances or any objections to what I have done, he should communicate to me directly.”
Meanwhile, newly-elected party chairperson for transport Kamuti Kamwengo said Kameya’s statement did not reflect the entire Western Province executive’s view.

Kaingu and Chituwo are MPs drawing on the existence of the Party. If MMD was dead there was going to be by-elections.MMD has internal problems created by individuals who have opted to speak through the press instead of the structures that exist within the Party.Muhabi Lungu is on spot when he says he will not discuss party issues through the press.

Bo Kameya, the bloody money you’ve chewed from Kaingu has blurred your thinking. You said you could not attend NEC meeting because you were at the Farm and had no money.Even after being told that money could be sent and use the ATM,you still gave excuses.Kaingu is not a factor in WP and he belongs to the Past polticians in MMD.Can’t put New Wine into Old Skin

Fredrick, you’re very wrong to say that MMD is in wrong Leadership hands of Dr Mumba.Remember after the loss in 2011,MMD was at it’s lowest point. In fact Kaingu and Group were no where to be seen, because they also made MMD to lose. Now they have seen hope, and want to distract Dr Mumba’s Leadership.Let them just go farming, they belong to the past polticians in MMD.
