Emmanuel Mayuka last night shed off the bench-warming spell when he came on for French Ligue 1 side Sochaux to power the relegation threatened outfit to a 2-1 victory over Rennes.
Ghanaian Jordan Ayew put visiting Sochaux ahead on 30 minutes before Mayuka completed the days work with a header 12 minutes from full time just two minutes after replacing Sanjin Prcic.
Former Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard, who has three Zambians on the books of Sochaux including defender Stophilla Sunzu and Nathan Sinkala, is a victory away from surviving relegation.
Mayuka’s goal was a boost to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations golden boot winner following a poor season that has seen him confined to the bench at the French side.
He was loaned to France by English Premiership side Southampton but the ex-Kabwe Warriors striker has lived below expectations.
Sochaux, placed third from bottom on 40 points, can still avoid relegation if they beat Evian next Saturday. Evian is on 17th position with 41 points in the 20 team league table.

How can he score goals when he does not play? Surely you cannot score while seated on the bench on the time. The question you need to ask is “Why is he always benched”? Obviously the defender who plays all the time can score more goals than a striker who does not play at all.
