Education minister Dr John Phiri has urged teachers in Siavonga district to desist from active politics but encouraged them to work extra hard.
Speaking when he addressed teachers drawn from different schools within the district, Dr Phiri urged the teachers to refrain from politics and serve the government of the day.
“As government, we are expecting you to work hard and create good future for school children. You should look after the children well and do not involve yourselves in politics because I know some of you still believe government has not changed,” he said.
He advised the teachers to work hard and produce good results at their schools.
“Work hard, be exemplary, be models, be good examples, especially you female teachers, so that the pupils could admire you and transform their lives,” he said.
Dr Phiri said teaching should be a profession which should transform people’s lives.
He said government cared for teachers, hence the improvement of their conditions of service.
He urged teachers not to be discouraged by the environment they were working from, adding they were there for a purpose.

Unfortunately, am now convinced that Dr. Phiri goes on a tour without an agenda. He is somewhat whimsical & disjointed. Listen to his messages. Even going to the extent of saying govt school perform badly because of head teachers’ failure to mention Jesus at assembly!! What about Islamic schools, Hindu? Eco bamyebela kuli Sata.

Imwe bantu ask this comedian John phiri how he transformed himself from a University teacher to a politician?Nobody stopped him to participate in active politics.
Teachers like him have feelings and its within their human rights to participate in politics.
