Bees Drown Chipata Man, 70
A 70-YEAR-OLD man of Namonza village in Southern Province drowned in a stream while he was running away from a swarm of bees.
And a seven-year-old girl has been strangled to death and dumped in a banana plantation in Vubwi district, Eastern Province commissioner of Police Grace Chipalila has said.
Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda said yesterday that the man who drowned has been identified as Zemba Moono and that the incident happened on Friday in Choma.
Ms Chikwanda said Mr Moono drowned as he was running for his life after being attacked by a swarm of bees.
“While at a place called Chipande and at an unknown time, Mr Moono came across a swarm of bees but as he was running away from the insects, he drowned in Namonza stream.
“It’s like Mr Moono had disturbed the insects, which attacked him,” she said.
Mr Moono’s body was retrieved from the stream and given to his family.
In the Vubwi incident, Ms Chipalila said police suspect that the girl could have been defiled before being strangled and dumped in a banana plantation.
She said in an interview in Chipata that investigations have been instituted.
“The girl went missing on May 25, 2014 and was only discovered dead on May 31, 2014. This is a murder case as the girl was strangled to death by the assailants,” Ms Chipalila said.
She said the girl had bruises on the neck and her back, an indication that someone strangled her.
Ms Chipalila said police will not rest until the culprits face justice.
She also said police in Chipata picked a body of a 64-year-old man who collapsed and died while riding a bicycle along the Chipata-Lundazi road on Saturday.
Ms Chipalila said Emmanuel Banda died in Nyakutuwe area.

You do not cross check stories which throws your readership into confusion because the story is about chipata man aged 70 drowning & not Southern province.Tumfweko be consistent with your articles otherwise this is not for journalism
